Anyone ordered a Specral On yet?

Anyone had a test ride on one?

I know they've been at a few test days with them so shout up if you've had a go on one please.

I've ordered one and should get it the week after next. I ordered mine on the day they were released on the website so I would be surprised if anyone has got one yet.

What size have you ordered and how big are you?

Don't forget to post up pics when you get it.😀

No one tested one yet?

I've sized up to Medium even though I'm 171cm.

There are a couple of "first ride" reviews out there. There's video reviews by MBR and EMBN on YouTube and a review by the on-line e-bike sister mag to Enduro.

Mine is due to arrive around start of June. It's expensive so it'll be awesome. The Ghost Hybride part reviewed on Pinkbike looks good but is more spendy.

Think you made a better choice.
I almost bought a Spectral-ON with the plan of sorting out the geometry with a angleset, front wheel swap (to 27.5) and increasing fork travel... Luckily Canyon messed me around so much I cancelled.

Why do I say luckily?

"BIKE CLASSIFICATION: Bikes in this category include those from categories 1 and 2 and are designed for harsher, unpaved terrain. The scope for these bikes includes occasional jumps up to a maximum height of 60 cm. Jumps of this scale can cause inexperienced riders to have accidents on landing, which can result in injury. Hardtail mountain bikes and full-suspension bikes with short travel are included in this category"

Dafuq? 60cm is a bunnyhop!

Definitely give me a shout if you plan on bringing your Emo-bile up to the Valley.

Yes.
Decent bunnyhop height is down to technique rather than how heavy the bike is.

Hmm, I was just about to pull the trigger on one but you are giving me second thoughts. What else has such a decent spec at the bottom end of the range? £3 and a half grand would be my max and everything else FS at that price gets cheap forks and kit.

That was my original plan. Open up the fork to 170 and an angleset.

Then I went out on a Kenevo and got offered the above bike with a load of mods for a fair bit less than the list price of a stock bike.

Couldn't say no to that.

We were planning on heading up to Inners in the next month or so but Mrs stu got hit by a car on saturday and now has her wrist in a cast. So it'll be later in the year if we can squeeze it in.

Ooohhh Shit! Sorry to hear. Hope she makes a fast and full recovery.

Defo let me know if you head up.

Fog - off the top of my head a Commie META POWER or Vitus ESommet(if you can find one) both under 3.5k and both have better (stock) geometry, more travel, similar/better spec and no no funsies clause.

The Spectral Alu frames don't have a high failure rate so I'm sure the Canyon will be fine if you're light or don't plan on getting too wild on it... I'm neither of those riders. (plus Canyon were terrible to deal with)

Hope she makes a fast and full recovery.

Thanks. Me too she's already pissed off with not being able to ride.

Just swapped all the sram stuff for shimano, then swapped the spech dropper, saddle and tyres for something more suitable.

Feels so much better with dual ply 2.6 tyres on than the spech 2.8's.

My 2.8 tyred hardtail feels fine but I think the extra weight of an ebike  makes them not a very good choice.

Can't tell you about the other mod.😉

Does that mean there might be a set of newish Guide REs needing a new home by any chance?
If the price is right I'd be very interested. Guide RS were lacking in comparison on the DH bike in the Alps last week.

I'm oldskool on tyres. 2.3 SS rear, 2.5 DHF front in exo with relitively high presures... drifts like a boss and rails when you want it to.

Still swithering whether to *ssssssshhhhh...* mod *hhhh* mine or not.

All the kit was swapped at the shop for no extra cash so no bits for sale.

The sssssshhhhh bit is controlled by an app that can be altered in many ways any time you want...

It's really useful for messing around with all kinds of different setups.

You can even alter how strong and when the motor comes on/ how long it stays on in each individual setting.

Are you still trying to sell a Oneup dropper?

Ah.. ok. no worries.

nah... sold that OneUp a few weeks back.

The Shhhhhhhhhimano App is good for altering assist levels but that's all really a homebrew/jailbreak version would be awesome

Given the weights of ebikes is there any point in.going for better spec? Better suspension would be a priority I suppose, but anything else doesn't seem much sense to me

Yes. There is

But it depends what you mean by "better" spec.
I'd avoid anything with an EX1 drivetrain like the plague as you're basically paying a massive premium for an 8 speed shimano spline patern cassette.
You definitely do want good brakes and good suspension (but suspension is subjective and can depend on the frame design as much as the shock).
at 46lb on the nose ready to ride mine is quite a bit lighter than most other 170mm emtbs, Nothing is spec'd especially light (XT/GuideRE/Nukeproof)  most of that lack of weight comes from me choosing not to use DD or DH casings or plus sized tyres but instead using normal 2.5/2.3 sized tubeless exos and not running low pressures.
The handling difference between the bike running the stock tubed DD 3C Minions and since swapping to faster rolling tubeless dual compound Exos was absolutely massive. It accelerates and changes direction more responsively, rolls faster, the suspension feels more active and the bike on a whole is just far more lively and playful. Yes. A playful Emtb.
I really didn't want an unresponsive heavy monster trucking plow bike I wanted a playful DH orientated bike that I could ride more descents on in less time and this is also a big part of the reason I bought a size small* despite being 5'11"

*At 445mm reach and just over 1200mm wheelbase It's still longer than most mediums and a lot of large enduro bikes were only 3 years ago and a good bit longer than both my current (older) DH bikes.

I was eyeing up the Vitus E-sommet (£3.1k with Wiggle gold discount) and the Canyon 8.0 (£4.5k).

Heart was on the Canyon but I hesitated and now not allowed to go off road for months (head injury, summer ruined again).

The Ex1 on the 8.0 really does put me off, tbh I would rather have shimano 11 speed and put my Hope V4 brakes on.

Vitus long out of stock now, shame as it did look good for the money. I just wanted the Fox suspension and really fancied the wheel set up of the Canyon.

I was on the waiting list for the Canyon but they kept putting back the date so I cancelled and got the lower spec E-sommet and like it a lot, new wheels/tyres and bars

Surely if the Kenevo is spec'd with 27.5 plus tyres you could bung on a 29er wheel and 2.4 tyre on the front and it.d be just the same as the canyon

I don't want mine to be like the Canyon thank you very much...

It's also a 27.5 fork on it.

I also bought the lower spec Vitus, changed a couple of things, converted wheels to tubeless ( tubes weighed a total of 1.5 pounds) swapped the seat for one of the Canyon ebike ones (very comfortable) and changed the mode shifter thing

Disclosure
This article was produced in association with Canyon Bikes UK

Please be aware that "article" is an add rather than any sort of impartial review and as such IMO not actually worth consideration. Canyon were extremely controlling in every aspect of the release of their first Emtb. You'll struggle to find an actual review of the bikes that wasn't controlled in some way by Canyon.

Just had a quick spin on a Kenevo, actually really liked it. Felt like I could throw it down anything.

Stu - how do you find the sizing? Was quite surprised when I got off and saw it was large as I am normally a medium on most bikes. I did think it felt nice and long for a specialised. Was the lower spec with fox shock and Yari fork but at least it had shimano gears.
