Hi folks,
Have narrowed bike purchase to these two:
http://enduro-mtb.com/en/canyon-spectral-al-7-0-ex-testbericht/
https://www.yt-industries.com/detail/index/sArticle/541/sCategory/77
Will need the bike this summer for trips to Iceland, the Alps, the dolomites and weekend excursions to Scotland and Bike Park Wales. Need an all-rounder I can use to hit my local trails too (surrey hills and swinley forest)
Canyon is £2100, has a Rockshox Pike, 140mm travel. Won a group test done by Enduro mtb.
YT Capra is £1800, has a Rockshox Yari, 160mm travel. Capra geometry as you all know has stacked up those accolades.
Any comparisons or advice between the two would be appreciated. I'm 5'6" and light at 63 kg. Would have gone for the YT and saved £300+more travel but strangely there are hardly any detailed reviews for the Yari on the internet. Also YT's customer service and frame reliability were infamously terrible last year, don't know if they've improved on these fronts? With Canyon I more or less know what I'm getting, with YT Capra not so sure.
If it were me, I'd go for the Capra. Friends have 2015 AL1's and they are excellent.
Ah yes, the AL1 and AL2 are higher end in their range and fitted with Lyrik and Pike, but also more expensive than the Spectral option. So wondering what am I losing by going for their new entry level AL with Yari forks.
Main differences between Capra Al and Spectral 7.0 ex:
Yari 160 travel vs Pike 150 travel
14kg vs 12.8 kg
Head tube angle : 65.2 deg vs 66.4
Seat tube angle: 75 deg vs 74.5 deg
Rest I'm not too bothered about, more or less similar. Does it make sense to pay £200 more (just checked the difference now after shipping etc) for a Pike and a 1.2 kg lighter bike?
I've got a carbon Capra and one of my mates has a Spectral. Choice would depend on usage or priority. The Canyon would be better uphill and the Capra better downhill. If you're only going to ride trails/xc then the Spectral would be the best choice. If you want to be able to do some hairy descents the Capra would be better.
Capra. It'll definitely turn up. And they're really good bikes. The GF has a carbon one and her bro has the Alu one (with likes and 11speed). They're really good bikes that also happen to be cheap as opposed to a good, cheap bike if you get what I mean. They ride up pretty well and descend really well.
