Got my shortlist down to 2 bikes:
Canyon Grand Canyon AL29 9.9 @ £1419
Cannondale Flash Alloy 1 @ £1899
I can just stretch to the Cannondale, but is it worth the extra dosh? It will be for riding Suffolk singletrack, fast but I don't race. I weigh 100kg.
Any thoughts ladies & gentlemen?

why not the canyon 9.9sl? its the same cost as the cannondale and better speced.
Personaly I cant see the point in buying the 9.9 over the 8.9 - its heavier than the 8.9, costs more and only for the equivilent spec in SRAM components and a set of fox, but thaqts just personal preferance.

I've had an 8.9 for about 3 months now and its a great bike - cant recomend it enough.

Hi
Fairly sure there are some Cannondale 29ers in Bikesport in Darlington.
No idea what model they are though-probably low end
Cheers
Steve

Considdered Rose?

Or, as this is STW, a Singular Swift? Mine's easily my most used bike, and despite being rigid, every time I roll upto something and think "I'm not riding that, I'm not on the Pitch" it plesently purprises me. added bonus that as you don't need gears/forks that leaves £1100 for bling, mine's a CK BB, XTR cranks, hope hoops, thompson bar/post, easton bars, hope X2's, and only cost me £700 s/h!

Very happy with my Canyon 8.9 for Tunstall/Thetford Singletrack. My poor old Camber is going to start gathering dust...

The only downside is that a 7.9 appeared on Canyon's site recently, looks even better value!

You're right, Johnnystorm, I spotted the new 7.9 this morning on the Canyon website. I've been plotting all day to go for that & get the American Classic MTB 29 wheelset @ around £450 if I'm lucky, then sell the Mavic Crossrides as new. Still come out around £1500.
Have I ridden with you at Tunstall? I'm a TROG member, but unfortunately been far too busy with work & family to ride every week recently. I plan to correct that error with immediate effect. Posted the Wednesday ride again.

hello there , just joined , and have been eyeing canyon 29ers for ages , and then the 7.9 popped up and have ordered one , i have been riding a basic specialised hard rock with v brakes , hoping I'm gonna get a superior ride , although have to thank the bike for getting me back into riding 3 years ago , hope I'm right

That 7.9 looks like all the bike you ever need for riding trail centres.

Well apart from my Cube 😀

It would be fair to say that I also covert a Canyon 29er however If you are looking to upgrade the bike out of the box you could consider the KHS Yuma @ £999 www.khsbikes.co.uk

I certainly had a great experience when I purchased a Flagstaff from Steve @ KHS last year.

@ Big Chris, I'm indeed a Tunstall irregular!

The Canyon is great around the woods! 🙂
