Seriously looking at the canyon lux (and also trek supercaliber)
I am currently riding a steel hardtail but with nice kit on it to switch over to one of the above.
Question is, I’m more ultra distance, marathon, bikepacking orientated.
Has anyone ridden the likes of the lux for similar purposes?
I just fancy something designed to be fast for a change
I have a bike a bit like that, a 100mm Trek FS XC bike. I don't like it as much as my Salsa El Mariachi for long distance travel even though the angles are the same. The reasons are as follows:
1) I set the Trek up to be more aggressive so it has a normal riser bar instead of a high sweep type thing.
2) It's not as stiff or solid whilst pedalling. Even locked out the suspension still moves a bit when standing on the pedals which feels less positive.
I think that if I had curvy bars on it, I'd be relatively happy riding it long distance. Luggage options are much more limited than a hardtail, but that could be worked around I suppose. But the suspension movement does make it feel less positive and somehow less 'good' when just travelling. But on the other hand, it's smoother over rough ground obviously. And the Canyon could well be stiffer than my Trek.
Cheers... interesting points. I’m still not convinced it would work for me but I am getting very tempted to try though
I really enjoyed using my Devinci Atlas carbon for general trail riding. 100mm rear, 120mm front and with a load of daft money kit on it, around the 9kg mark. Only really the 69deg head tube that make it a bit of a handful on the more technical stuff but it felt fast and ‘poppy’ on jumpy, twisty trails & I even raced a Southern Enduro round on it (& came as mid-pack as I have in a proper enduro bike! 😂)
Perfect for all day on the South Downs type riding too.
Only got rid as an Intense Primer came along at the right price...
Ive posted this a few times - got a 2020 Lux. Very fast very aggressive XC bike nothing about it is trail oriented. It would tick all those boxes you want except bike packing.
I have a 2020 Lux, it really is a dedicated XC bike, fine for long distance rides and marathon races which is what I got mine for but not suited for bike packing.
A Trek Top Fuel might be a better option.
not suited for bike packing
Why not?
I suppose in some truth any bike can be used to bike pack so I think the best answer to this is - there are far better options. The Lux is pure XC - the head angle is 70deg that alone gives you an exceptional aggressive position then factor into loading it front & rear it just wouldn't be very comfortable or well balanced. There's no space in the triangle for a bag so its all on the top tube but the shock is in line so will restrict any straps.
The ingenious & flexible rider could probably work a way round all of these issues but it would somewhat IMHO be akin to the old square peg round hole cliche.
Cheers for all the replies...
With regards bikepacking, I’m generally talking fast bikepacking and bikepacking racing, as opposed to touring, so something racy would be fine for me.
The lux is a good looking bike and an ok price, compared to some other in the class 😳

My adventure bike is 70.5 HA. It's brilliant. The HA is one of the things that makes it brilliant in fact, and it's a reason I went for that frame.
I'd love to try that Canyon on an ITT, but only if the terrain was rough - and I'd wear a rucksack.
