A quick question: how long have your linkage bearings lasted?
My Neuron is only 2 months old and has done just over 300 miles of mostly dry rides. Had a creak develop on the last ride so have taken the pivots out to clean them and every bearing bar one is seized or very hard to turn! Two of the bearings are so notchy that it's almost like the bearings are too big for the hole so are being squeezed.
Not very happy if I'm going to have to replace them this often!
My girlfriend had a Spectral (newer shape, before they went to the longer fork...2018 I think) for two years. The bike got hammered, including a trip to Madeira and a trip to Finale and many, many days of Scottish sludge. The frame bearings were done once and only because it was going to Finale. There was no play or stiffness at all. 300 miles definitely doesn't sound right! I'd be onto Canyon.
I had a nerve - lasted ages...
When I did replace the bearings they were an absolute b'stard to get out.
I have messaged Canyon, see what they say.
Does seem odd as everyone I know who's had Canyons has got at least a year out of the originals. I hope this bike doesn't turn out like my old Specialized where the constant bearing replacements (every 3 months minimum) meant the bores all wore out and helped write the frame off! Was hoping it would be more like my Trek that it's replaced, two sets of bearings in 5 years.
My 2020 Strive CF 2.0 has endured 5 months of non-stop all-weathers total hammering out in Madeira without any complaint and without being cleaned once (aside from when it had a quick hosing down before being put to bed for the summer).
No creaks or rattles other than we me!
Bought my Strive at the start of 2017. Replaced the bearings this spring. They were a little rough, but still doing their job. All easy enough to remove other than those face to face ones in the chainstay.
Lots of alpine bike parks, several months spent in Finale and not much love.
Might be my lack of care but I bought a spectral 18 months ago and I'm amazed at the parts I'm having to replace... I use it as a second bike and due to covid its not seen an enduro but I'm having to pump some money into it ready for boltby bash.
My 2016 Strive lasted ages. There is a lot of people say that Canyon don't grease them very well but I have never had an issue.
Mine are still okay on my Spectral after a year and 1.2km in varied conditions. Definitely worth dropping Canyon a line.
RadWife’s Spectral is 5 years old and has done a lot of miles - a couple of uplifted trips each year plus weekly riding. Still on original bearings snd still seem smooth.
We ride hard tails through the worst winter slop.
Have a Spectral bought 2016 and I haven't had to change anything. Has "only" done 600 miles but they've been hard on me, of not the bike (Tweed enduro trails)
Canyon have replied and it's booked in to the service centre on the 28th for assessment.
Another thing I've noticed while putting it back together is the seatstay is 20mm out of alignment to the linkage, easy to pull into alignment and bolt together but does seem odd. Will mention that to them on the despatch form.
There is a lot of people say that Canyon don’t grease them very well but I have never had an issue.
The bearings all had a bit of white grease in them, not what I was expecting. The bearings that were stiff but still had grease in them, it had turned into a mayo-like paste in parts. Very similar to a car when the head gasket goes. Is there a shortage of bearings meaning they couldn't get their usual supply and I've inadvertently got ones that aren't up to the job? Seems plausible going by the stories above of them lasting ages for most people.
Well Canyon forgot to send me a courier note to get the bike to them on time so I'll be driving it there myself tomorrow! They tried saying I didn't give them my address in time, strange as the email they contacted me on had all the previous correspondence linked below including the one I sent with my address on the 15th June.
The bike is great but their customer sevice isn't the best so far. Will reserve judgement until they have either fixed it or said it's not warranty.
I'm a member of the canyon neuron group on facebook. A very depressing group
I bought my neuron c.f. 8 in March 2020 at the start of lock down. It's been great apart from the DUB button bracket. But more recent bikes seem to have exploding linkage bolts. Canyon seem to have tried hard to solve this by sending out stronger bolts for free. But I wonder if they changed supplier or added a new supplier as demand went up as it feels like the newer bikes are more problematic
Don't get me started on the SRAM DUB Bottom bracket, have you tried buying one at the moment... mostly out of stock! I may have to stump up for a hope one and some extra part thats also needed £££
Have you found a DUB bottom bracket. Mate at work is looking......
I spoke to hope and they have suggested the following
BBPF4130SS and DUB conversion BB019-K2
Comes in at about £65 so I'll be contacting my local hope dealer this weekend.
Most of the sram bb's are on back order until Autumn.
cheers friend has decided to go Hope
Well Canyon have done their inspection and replaced all of the frame bearings, including the headset. Can't expect anything more than that, hopefully they will last longer than the originals. I'll be keeping a close eye on them in any case.
But I wonder if they changed supplier or added a new supplier as demand went up as it feels like the newer bikes are more problematic
Hopefully it is just that. I did receive the bike a solid month before the due date, which was a bit surprising considering the reported parts shortages etc. Maybe they sourced new suppliers of the bolts and bearings that were just short of the usual standard.
