Every time I am tempted by a canyon full suss (spectral this time) I am waylaid by irrational concerns that the bearings will be some crazy hard-to-get standard (is there something historical with nerve frames?) or that there are blind bearings galore to make the job awkward.
So please can anyone who owns a recent canyon full suss ease my concerns? Are the bearings fairly standard sized and the job relatively straightforward (for someone who is quite used to bearing swaps)?
Many thanks,
S
Not recent, but for my 2012 Nerve XC I did have to use a variety of suppliers for bearings, but it was still cheaper than going through Canyon themselves. The blind bearings were by the BB and rear axle. I didn't realize the bearings by rear axle were blind however. Each side had a pair of bearings which sat on a lip between them. I tried pushing both out at once. Thankfully didn't do too much damage, they just slide in and out a bit too easily now on one side (didn't make same mistake on both sides). I also found removing and refitting the chainstays to replace the spherical bearings by the bottom bracket a pain. Was never quite sure of exact procedure, again may have caused some slight damage to the alu doing so. I asked Canyon for some guidance on this but they didn't offer anything other than sending it to them (which I didn't).
Hope this has improved since 2012!
Did it yesterday on my strive cf never done it before was pretty straightforward. Sourced bearings individually but there are full kits online and on ebay
Yup, completely irrational! 😊
I had to buy bearings for a 2016 Spectral earliest this year and it was really easy. Quite a few of the bearing websites had them available as a pack so didn't even have to buy them individually.
Cheers guys, good feedback there and helped to ease my concerns.
sirromj- I think it was from around that time my worries stem!
Thanks,
