Anyone else getting rubbish service and delivery from Canyon Bikes?

I specifically chose a bike that was in stock on the 8th of July because they promised a 5 day delivery on bikes from stock when I spoke with their customer service.

I gave them a shed load of money and they confirmed by email that it would be dispatched within 5 days.

They then sent an email with a contract saying it would be dispatched between 10-20 days after the order.

They then sent another email saying that they were changing the delivery dates for a 3rd time and now it was in August!

I complained to customer service last Friday and got an email yesterday saying the bike hadn't even left the warehouse in Germany and they would look into it.

I chose the bike and unpopular colour purely because it was in stock and available within 5 days. I will have lost a month of cycling during beautiful weather because of Canyons repeated lies about delivery dates.

I am so close to cancelling but don't want to go to the back of the queue for any other bike I order.

Any suggestions on how to get the bike I have already paid for?

Why have you lost a month's cycling - you've got to have more than one bike ? Canyon have always been a bit shoddy on delivery - it was possibly acceptable when they were bargains, but they aren't anymore !

I've just ordered a Canyon. Was debating between a couple of models, all which promised "delivery between 5th - 16th Sept". Thing is, I'm off on holiday on 16th and want to take the bike with me so it's no good if it turns up on that day or delivery slips. Anyway, in talking to Canyon on their Live Chat, the guy actually said he wouldn't risk it - in fact he more or less implied that it would slip...

Anyway, I found more or else what I wanted in their Outlet Store which has a much quicker delivery date cos the bike is right there, it's not something that needs building to order.

Any suggestions on how to get the bike I have already paid for?

There isn't a way. It'll be done when it's done. You'll be in a queue with however many hundred / thousand other people all waiting for bikes.

Or just send them the Revocation Form which cancels the order and get a refund on it.

it was possibly acceptable when they were bargains, but they aren’t anymore !

They're maybe not quite the bargain they once were but it's still a good price. I'm paying over £250 less than an equivalent "shop floor" bike plus for me, I've ridden their frames before I know what size I need, how it handles etc so I'm not taking a plunge into the unknown with it.

In your position I'd just cancel it and find something in stock at a LBS or decent national chain. I recently placed an order with Leisure Lakes on a Thursday and they dropped the bike off on the Saturday. The bike was a replacement for a Canyon which had the same part fail 4 times over 4 years...

Apologies about not knowing the bikes were all gone. I'd be waving cash at a bike shop !

While deciding what to do about Canyon, order up a Carrera 9-speed folder for £405 including 10% British Cycling discount? Site says you could get it delivered to home on Friday, it might even arrive tomorrow, going on a colleague's purchase a few months back.

Needs to be an ebike unfortunately. I have borrowed a mates non-assist bike and confirmed that while I can pedal it, I cannot sustain and real pace for any real distance and it takes 2-3 days to get comfortable after a 45 minute ride.

If you think the current situation is crap just wait until it breaks. A friend of mine found that even having a second bike didn't help with the extended repair/replacement time as both of his bikes were Canyons and both were broken at the same time.

And I certainly not buy an ebike mail order.

Sorry to hear about the bikes getting pinched man.

I must say though that, as mentioned above, I'd be wary of buying an Eeeb remotely, plenty of things can go wrong on them and require a sympathetic shop with the right diagnostic kit.

Have a rummage about, see what's available within a reasonable distance and see what deals you can get for a 'pay in one hit, roll it away now' price.

Otherwise you could well miss the whole summer.

I mentioned this in another thread but I was in a local branch of Pure Electric the other day trying out an (Orbea) ebike that was down from £2700 to £1900. If you need a bargain...

If you think this is annoying, wait until you have a warranty problem......

Go to a local bike shop and see what they have. Most in my area have stock now, I bought a cube ebike the other week. It was in stock and could pick it up next day.
Was supposed to be 5k but they knocked off 5% due to not taking finance and paying for it upfront.

given your customer services experience with them, and with the knowledge that an ebike WILL break and need warranty work on the electrics side, buying online from them may not be a great idea !

Not only are Pure going online only they're only going to sell eScooters from here onwards.

As others have suggested, if Canyon are crap getting you the bike when you still have an easy way to get your cash back what will the service be like when the motor has failed and they have your money?

Yeah that's what the guy in the shop said. Reckons the law will be changing at some point and they want to corner the scooter market, this winding down the bike stuff. Some good deals on tho!

As above, I certainly wouldn't buy an ebike from a direct to consumer brand like Canyon. They all seem to break at some point (usually the motor or electrics) and brands such as Specialized / Trek / Giant with their good warranties and large dealer network will get you back on your feet significantly quicker when the inevitable happens.

I've had two canyon bikes and nothing but good experiences with them, but I wouldn't be buying an eb from them, or YT (another dtc brand I own).

I bought a Shimano ebike from Commencal (also direct to customer). When the motor had an issue I arranged with Commencal to send it straight to Madison in the UK. However, Madison would only return it to Commencal (in Andorra), who then had to re-send it back to me, so it toook aagggees to get it back.

FWIW, I ordered an outlet bike from Canyon pre pandemic when everything was normal, and it still took a few weeks to arrive.

Cancelled.

Now the ball-ache of trying to find an e-gravel that is physically in stock as well as showing as in stock.

Anything within 50 miles of Southampton for 6 foot tall, 33" inside leg up to £4,000 if you work in a bike shop and want a sale and collection before the weekend. PM me

@WorldClassAccident -

(not within 50 miles of Southampton at all but in stock)

Not that it helps you in any way but I've just had an email from Canyon to say that my bike has been shipped. Ordered it on Monday. as mentioned though, it was an Outlet bike so something already sitting there built.

I assume the long lead times on their bikes are because they have a pile of frames and piles of parts and someone actually needs to put it all together...? And if one of the piles of parts is missing / delayed that then affects everything.

Sigma Sports seem to have a couple of Orbea in L / XL and an XL Bianchi which can be delivered in 8 days (maybe worth calling to see if pick up can be quicker).

Might be worth giving Moose Cycles a ring. Just outside your fifty miles but quite an easy drive up the a3

Picked up an Orbea Gain from the Electric bike shop near the parks on Southampton (forget the name) and they are closing in September so got £950 price reduction, free lights, free computer and free Park Tool multi-tool thrown in.

Need to get the pedals and some better tyres fitted and see how it rides tomorrow.

Sounds like the one I mentioned upthread!

Let us know what you think of the bike, I've got something with the same motor on order. It said it was in stock....

Or walk into a shop with stock, pay a little more and ride it home minutes later 🤷‍♂️

Find a shop with stock of e-gravel bikes within 50 miles of Southampton in close to the right size. Not easy but...

Doris5000 - It sound EXACTLY like the shop you mentioned which is why I went there. When I was looking earlier they only had a small Obea in Southampton. Today they had a medium, I would have preferred large but it is okay, so I gave them the money and brought the bike home.
