Hi
I've cracked the frame on my Specialized Enduro just above the weld on my seat post. I've used this bike 10 years, so it has lasted well. Unfortunately, I chucked the receipt last year - I didn't know Specialized offered a lifetime frame warranty. Gutted.
I'm looking for a new bike as a replacement and I've got it down to one of these
1:
Canyon AM 8 X. £1800
or
2: GIANT TRANCE X2 LTD EDITION
£1800 (discounted from £2500).
I am 18 stone and 6'2 and generally ride local trials, going to Wales every couple of months or so for more technical stuff.
Which would you choose from the above?
I'm not fussed about ordering from Germany, in any case I'd put it on the Credit Card - so any funny business (and I am keeping an open mind despite some concerning threads on lack of customer service) from Canyon would be taken against my credit card company.
Cheers
Al
The Trance is a very fun ride and will be suited to your riding needs, I've owned an X3 and X2 and have never had a bad ride, and they can take some abuse. Even the X4 usually wins bike of the year awards.
I understand the new Canyon's will be on their website from 2nd Week in October (at least that is what the Canyon UK answer phone says)
I think the Canyon Nerve AL is the AM's replacement for 2013... I don't know much about it, other that it has an additional 10mm travel so it will be a 150mm travel frame.
I can't get hold of anyone at Canyon to speak to. I don't want to wait until next year until I take delivery.
Aren't Avid Elixir R breaks problematic ? Thats what puts me off on the Giant Trances. I'm 18 stone, so need reliable brakes!
I like the Shimano groupset though, which I guess means replacement parts would be cheaper than a Canyon.
But then, you get the Reverb seatpost on that Canyon.
Its a hard choice......
I have Canyon AM, nice bike, the Giant also looks nice, but if you cant afford the reverb Extra on the giant get the Canyon. I was an uppy downy sceptic but they are brilliant
lol. Its such a hard choice with the heavy discount on that Giant.
I can see the Reverb seatpost for £200 on that German bike discount web site.
However, I've also read a few reports that the fork on the Trance is a little weaker than the Canyon AM.
Both bikes have the FoX RP2 Boost rear shock.
giant trance x2 2011 fork
: Fox F125 RL-11, tapered steerer, QR15, 125mm travel
Canyon AM fork
: Fox 32 Performance TALAS FIT RL Travel 150mm lowerable 120mm
Is the Canyon fork spec a lot better than the Giant's? Looks like there is an extra 30mm of travel on the Canyon one.
AS you can see, I don't buy bikes very often. My Specialized Enduro lasted me 10 years. :o)
The Canyon fork is better but some people find Talas not plush enough
