I want to do something horrendous with the brakes on my 29er, ideally running them in a position as close to that of a road STI - edit: more like a TT brake lever actually - as possible (on a touring 'butterfly bar' to make things worse! 😉 ).

Having the hose come straight out the lever doesn't work as it would need to perform a lengthy 180 degree arc to get back to the headtube, but a banjo fitting would be ideal.

I'm just not savvy enough with current gen disc brakes to know what's possible...

I would’ve thought so, ive just fitted some banjos to some mega old gator brakes using an Uber bike universal hose kit, cam with all the fittings needed.

The end of the threaded part of the lever outlet isn’t engineered to seal on a banjo fitting.

Thanks gents, looking at the exploded diagrams I think I can see what hamish means, you'd be tightening an o-ring onto the end of a thread which doesn't sound healthy.

Plus the actual parts are like hen's teeth anyway, 'banjo units' seem to retail for £30 ish if you can even find them so you'd need a hose assembly already complete with the right parts at either end.

File under 'too much hassle even if it was possible' 😀

Could you use the GRX sub levers in addition to your regular levers? They have an appropriate hose exit, but require a standard lever also for the reservoir.
