any body got some opions good or bad on Mini Vee's over canti's?
I've been running some tectro canti's and i know they are supposed to offer crap stopping but its the step that is frustrating me.
Trying to get them just right and then staying there is proving to be a bit of a mare.
Just wondered about going to mini vee's.
Clogging them up with grass isn't my biggest concern.
mini vees are great if there's no risk of clagging them up
so go for itClogging them up with grass isn't my biggest concern
Mini Vs are certainly better brakes. Re clearance, mine weren't the restrictive point- the pad stalks are much the same as cantis and the arms were wider than the frame and forks anyway. Guess that'll vary depending on your bike though.
Go for the mini v's as they actually work as brakes unlike cantis. They don't seem to clog any more than cantis either.
Definitely mini v . the loss of clearance is marginal. The best thing for me is no judder on the front.

That was my entire reason for changing. Each time I brake I feel justified.
found mini vees hugely better until it was muddy. Really wet mud was OK but sticky stuff and they just clogged up. So no mud then bees.
Avid ultimate shorties, loads of clearance, as you can set them to run wide or narrow. No judder either, and reasonably easy to setup, then just leave them alone.
I ran cantis for ages until I got sick of having to anticipate braking about 30 yards early...in the dry, on the road!
Switched to mini vees. Amazing...I can stop again, and in the wet.
As I discovered they can be a PITA if you want to get the wheel out in a rush (with 700x32 on) but if you are using a 700x25 they are fine.
Ok Mini Vees ordered fitted and ridden.
what are you guys doing for adjusters?
not adjustment at the STi end so only pulling cable through to adjust brakes. A bit basic and tricky to get the wheels out once i've got a good bit set up.
Anybody found a inline adjuster?
Used a gear one?
What brakes did you go for? If you use a brake noodle like this then you can fit an adjuster in-line. I just bought some TRPs with it included.

these have the adjuster built in.
I went for tektro mini's from PX
I'm just about to set up my mini-Vs so can't speak from experience, but from reading around I'm planning on using these and/or trimming a little off the end of the noodle so that I don't need to pull so much through to release the brake cable.
The modern breed of cx cantilevers have easy adjustment for brake wear unlike old style. I've just replaced some Tektro cantilevers with Campag cx cantilevers and they're very powerful. I've been riding cx bikes for nearly 20 years so have suffered the week long slowing for the lights thing in the last century. I still have some Mr Grumpy's in a box somewhere.
Thanks for this thread. Put up with crap cantis on my tourer for a few years. Just ordered some mini vees and the adjustable noodles from planet x.
Same noodles here, I think on 926s,

If you've mudguards on your tourer you might have problems fitting the mini vs. The Tektro ones don't clear the SKSs on my CrossCheck.
Oh bugger. Will just have to try them. 😕
MTB v brakes with travel agents. Excellent stopping power, good clearance and I had no issues. Only changing to discs stopped me using them.
