Sorting through some cables and found the one below and couldn't for the life of me think what the nipple on the top fits ..it's not a mtb brake cable nipple as it's much smaller and near in size to the gear nipple below at the other end.Someone enlighten me please.[IMG] [/IMG]

Suntour X-Press used to use those ends, I think. Definitely not a brake cable, too small.

(Showing my age a bit here. Get off my lawn! Damn kids.)

Well..it's not in the cable head link and road bike cables are normally pear shaped iirc ..slight difference between campag and shimano..which leaves the downtube shifter which I thought took standard gear nipples but it's been ages since I used them. Are you sure?

1950s Simplex downtube lever. I said that it was old skool :-)
There are several similar, e.g. Suntour X-Press, Shimano 3-sp trigger, etc
Could be any without trying it, but I think that logically you pair similar types on a universal cable, e.g. both ends are downtube fittings

Probably fits one of those old 3 speed sturdy archer gear shifters too.

No it's not a Sturmey, they are a specific cable with a small barrel nipple on the end.

It's the suntour as above.

We still keep some of those at work. Mostly for older down tube Levers.

Xpress is very few and far between these days
