No matter what I try, I cannot get either of my WTBs off the rims. Any tips at all on what I can do? I’ve no voice by the way.

What have you tried so far?

There was a thread fairly recently which took you all the way from thumbs to jumping up and down on the sidewalls with the wheel on the ground.

I’ve no voice by the way.

Shouting at them rarely works IME.

At the moment, standing on either side, tyre levers, soapy water, metal tyre levers. Anger.

Have you tried dropping the beads into the well of the rim all the way round and on both sides first?

The obvious solution is to over inflate them until a bead pops off but you'd need to be brave and wear ear defenders. And be stood the other side of a door to the wheel when doing it.

Sprinkle talc liberally round the rim and bead; the tyre will slip off easily.

So it's just trying to force the bead into the rim bed?

I've used mole-grips with some padding on the jaws before, but you're getting into potential sidewall-wrecking territory.

The set we had last week took two of us - one rolling the tyre bead and another wedging some sharp, plastic tyre levers down the back of the rim to force the tyre bead over the internal lip. Even done like this, it was still a twunt of a job.

Sprinkle talc liberally round the rim and bead; the tyre will slip off easily.

Interesting, never tried this but I am sceptical. These tyre beads are so tight that it was one hell of a job, but the next time I get a setup like, I'll give it a go.

I had this problem too, saw a video on youtube, to get the tyre off, stand on the tyre sidewall  with both feet and hold some spokes and pull up sharply, this will pull the tyre from the rim, works for me.

Get some really thin roadie tyre levers, I use the blue schwalbe ones. Then washing up liquid in between the tyre and rim and try and work it under the bead a little at a time using the levers. I feel your pain I had this issue with g-ones on a m60 rim but after days of trying this was the method that finally got it off. Never been brave enough to try fitting them again !.

Just had a big fight with Schwalbe Nobby Nics 2.6" on to Easton Arc 45mm rims and I always use plenty talc. I didn't try mighty oaths though - maybe that's what I did wrong.

Everything is for tubeless these days so clearances are much much tighter. I'm used to not resorting to tyre levers, but I had to use them for this.

I've put a tube in, now I hope I don't get a puncture. I can see I'll probably have to go tubeless, like it or not, because I can't see me getting those tyres off for a trailside puncture repair.

It's no help to you but I avoid WTB currently after having to literally cut off a set of vigilantes from my wifes rims.

I admitted defeat early on and took the 27.5+ wheels from my Longitude down to the excellent LBS. Getting them set up tubeless to minimise chance of a flat on the trial as I'd never get them off.

Going to get a set of 29er wheels to use on longer trips but making sure I get a tyre/wheel combination that I can separate myself when necessary.

This. I had a tyre rim combo so thight the rim actually scraped the rubber off the wire bead.

Blue schwalbe lever are amazing.

Clamp offending tyre in a bench vice - Wiggle back and forth - Add some washing up liquid as you expose rim bead - Repeat whilst incrementally tightening up vice .

I suspect the voice that he hasn't got, is actually the bench vice that you've suggested he uses 🙂

+1 for Premier Iconwwaswas

Push the tyre bead down into the centre of the wheel central 'well' on one side will free up enough tyre to be able to slip the tyre on the diametrically opposite side of the wheel off the rim.

I found loads of tyres that were b*****ds to remove but this technique works on all of'em.

So far ..
