You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I will try not to go on a rant about how painful it is specifying a bike these days, let alone finding parts in stock, but...
I want a Hope headset, and my the Bird Aether 9c needs a Hope HSC7. I can't find these in black in stock anywhere. But searching for the IS41 standard, it seems that the HSC3 can fit. Is this right? Do I just not use the bottom part?

Hope website has muchos documentos which should help you work it out (In the manuals and documents section)
From the upper headset compatability chart it looks like the dimensions are the same but hsc3 is for a square cup and hsc7 for a chamfered cup
Yes. And from the Hope exploded diagram it looks like the only difference is an extra bit on the bottom to square if the bottom of the bearing... That might be an over simplified explanation. Does anyone have experience of these two parts?
Yeah, I had a 3 on my Last before swapping for a 7, the 3 sat high and left a gap. The cap/cover was different also, 3 had a smaller, rounded cap, 7 was flatter.
Great, thanks for info. Doesn't sound ideal so I will continue to search for HSC7
I had the same experience as honourablegeorge. Same frame I think. Bought a 3 thinking it was correct. It wasn’t and had to swap it for a 7. Luckily for me it was in stock at CRC this time last year. So get the 7 from that link!
Bird are showing stock of the hope headset on the 9c page.
Orrrr just run a bird headset till hopes are easier to get.
