Not had this one before...
Brand new RS Revelation fork and I cannot get any air into it. It's got some air in currently, but shock pump doesn't register anything on the gauge.
Pump works fine on every other RS fork/shock in the garage.
The issue seems to be an extra short valve core. It measures 1.77 mm below the valve stem where as everything else is less than a mm.
Can I just swap the valve core or will I wreck a brand new fork?
Remove the air and pump it up from empty.
I'd certainly swap valve cores with another fork to test your theory.
i once had a shock pump that wouldn’t engage on a shock. i gave it to a friend and it worked perfectly for him on his shock and forks. the replacement pump i received worked on my shock.
edit to answer the question:
you can replace the valve cores. you could also try slackening it off a touch, but not enough to loose air, then see if the pump will open the valve.
“You know how to get into a fork don’t you? You just put your lips together and blow.”
Just been involved in something similar myself. My incredibly reliable SKS USP started refusing to inflate RS forks, but strangely (and I still haven't figured why), worked fine on any Fox or Suntour that came through the workshop. After pulling it apart multiple times, I traced it to an o-ring, in the head that screws onto the valve, being so worn that it was near invisible, and leaking any pressure applied. This may not be your problem, but it's certainly worth checking for the cost of an o-ring.
I had this with an old shock pump and an xfusion seat post. Worked on fox and RS forks I had but wouldn't engage with the seat post valve.
Tried replacing valve core but that didn't work. Bought a new shock pump in the end.
Can you borrow another pump from a mate and try that? I've got several shock pumps & the heads that screw onto the valve are all different shapes. Might be the pump.
I’ve just experienced exactly the same issue on a set of new Lyriks. Maybe Rockshox have made their current valves taller for some reason? I got round the issue by swapping the core
I've had this issue and just reduced the height of the threaded bit around the valve core with a dremmel. Only needed about half a millimetre.
I had a really annoying fox pump that was hit n miss, I bought a rockshox one and it never fails and works on everything I've tried so far.
