[Closed] Cannondale Trigger? Bargain

Mate just got a 29er 2014 from Pauls for 1099. Last one in Med I think tho. Revs & SLX. Lovely lovely bike! The switchable 80/130 shock travel works surprisingly well.

Flippin heck, the two looks ok n all. Wouldn't mind one of them.

Ooh, now that does look good. I have no need for a new MTB right now but they do have an XL in stock...

I bought one a few months ago as a bit of a punt from Pauls cycles and I'm very glad I did!

It rides and handles well, to go tubeless you just need valves and sealant and the kit is all pretty good. It comes with a shock pump which is just as well as if you are heavy the shock might need 600psi in it. Setup is straightforward though and I just rode it with the pressure it came with for a couple of days until I found the proper pressures on line. There was quite a difference but it was good before I changed the pressures but great afterwards!

Mine came with a leaky brake caliper but Pauls sent me a new one very quickly and refunded me for posting the old one back.

I've swapped the Revs to Pikes, the Revs were fine but I found a pike for a good price and it is better as you'd expect but it was hardly rubbish before.

Mine gets used for big mountain stuff in Scotland and the only thing I would change would be the weight for hike-a-bike stuff. Apart from that it's pretty much perfect.

I bought a 1 off Paul's last year. Can't fault it (or them). The only thing that would put me off the bike in the OP's link is the lack of a Lefty - which is the whole point of buying a 'dale MTB IMO!!

The carbon one with a left is only £1800, if I had the cash I'd go for that. It's red too, super fast.

If I like it I could switch all my 11sp bits over plus Reverb, and fit all the Dale bits back on to my 45650b.. and flog that as a minter..

I guess the shock servicing is specialist/expensive (not had mine done yet!) I remember seeing a thread on here with a recommendation for servicing I think. Yes, there is a remote on the bars.

As mentioned above, it works really well. Climbs brilliantly in short travel mode IMO.

Trigger for a grand looks fantastic.

I bought a Trigger 1 29er with a Lefty from Paul's last year. I'm loving it. No problems with either suspension but but I am a lightweight mincer.
Eats up the miles and feels fun enough to me. I am going 27.5 for the n+1 but will be keeping the Trig for Ridgeway commute duties.

I usually ride a large, but like a long cockpit. Short inseam for my height (6'1") so bloody long torso. XL looks doable by my calcs..

Aghhhh was not buying a bike this year or changing wheel size"...now I!ve seen a trigger carbon 2. I am 5 10' with 32" inside legs, is large too large?

I'm 6'2" tall and 34" inseam and I ride an XL Carbon team with a lefty. Brilliant bike. Had a Jekyll before with no problems from the shock.
The Trigger climbs better than I ever will but absolutely flies down the rough stuff. I'm in Ballater and have some fairly steep and rocky descents to choose from.
For £999 the 4 is a steal, the 3 is cracking value too.

Trying the 29er briefly at 5'11.5 and 32" I'd have been happy on the Med, but would have gone Large. Fits my smaller mate (5'9?) very well, a 125 reverb slammed right down will be perfect for him.

That switch from 80 to 130 is great, the front wheel just shoots out in front of you for descending, then it tucks back in for climbing. Sounds gimmicky but it does work.

The WTB i23 & Wolverine wheelset is really tight fit, but its tubeless ready, inc ready taped, so you only need to unseat one rim side, pull tube out, add valve and jizz and inflate.

Love my Jekyll. The Dyad is different. The lever to change the travel is a bit meh. But , as said by others, unlatch the lever, feel the bike squat and the front move forward and its well beyond my capability as a bike to ride. The shock never seems to be bothered by anything . Make sure you buy the sag marker , to set it up better, as you cant easily set this up without one. There is 2 versions. From buying this, I then bought an F29 Dale , the wife a Caad 10 and thinking of a Dale 29 er singlespeed next.
Pauls are great. Broke 2 freehubs, they stripped and sent another as Madison didn't have any in stock at the time. Quick turnaround etc. Always easy to talk to and resolve any issues. Pay an extra fiver to get the bike next day is also a bonus.

Looks like a lot of bike for the money, any reviews online? Can't find a lot from a quick google.

Gah I'm tempted to, not sure on medium vs large though (6' and 31" in-seam), I guess large makes more sense - if only they weren't 200 miles away. I notice Cyclesurgery have the medium 2 in and say they price match...

Howsyourdad, I had my Alu Jekyll for 2 and a bit years, riding in the cairngorms and further afield. Our last outing was a robust week in Moab, before I got the Trigger. The jekyll didn't complain once and is still providing grins down the other side of Glenshee for its new handler.

Oh man, they've got medium carbon Triggers back in stock. Soooo very tempted. Anyone had theirs turn up yet and able to provide ther first impressions?

about 20 years out of date, but witty enough to have stuck as a meme. They used to push the boundaries with ally compared to other manufacturers with very thin walled very large diameter tubes.

My 2004 Jekyll has been taken to the Alps 5 times, and is my one and only everyday, everything bike. There is no indication that it is going to crack soon.

Really want the carbon trigger 2 in large. I love the lefty fork.

Okey dokes good to know. I'll start calling them Cannondales again. My friends 2013 cannondale cracked so I thought it was a 'thing' still. Of course all manufacturers have issues

Weight is supposedly about 28lbs, sounds like the tyres are best off in the bin and I guess needs a wheel upgrade eventually - hopefully nothing else will need changing.

Yeah those are the two things that stopped me from having some explaining to do to the wife. Really surprised that the crossroc wheels aren't tubeless ready like crossmax. That and wondering how easy it is to find wheels that would fit lefty forks when it did get to upgrade time

Yeah I'm going to get some nobby nics but I'm only a little un and I don't do any really rough stuff so wheels should be ok.

Anyone know what the suspension configuration is? All the reviews just focus on the shock. Is it single pivot with linkage activation of the shock?

Single pivot with linkage actuation and flex built into the seatstays on the carbon models. I think the Alu bikes get an extra pivot at the dropout end of the seatstays.

lbs swapped my tyres for WTB Vigilantes, sticky up front tough at the back and set them up tubeless. Mental amount of grip. My bottle goes long before the tyres.

Paul's cycles are great, I ordered a Saracen Ariel, it arrived with a dented down tube I assume from transit....I photographed it, sent them an email and they collected the bike and sent out a new one no questions asked...great service.

Can anyone find a size chart for the Trigger 27.5? I'm wondering about a small for a 5'5" woman...

I talked to them about the sizing of mine before I bought it. The 29er is quite short, so I went for a large (I'm 5'11").

£999 is a bargain though. Init. Cheapest I've see elsewhere is £1899 (proudly boasting to be cheapest online price)

I wouldn't dither for too long. This thread is basically a 2 page advert for them, they'll have a finite stock level and they've priced them to sell. Quickly.

Yeah I was really tempted by the Trigger 4 but lack of a dropper put me off, and the Magura brakes put me off the Trigger 3 - I know both would be correctable for cheaper than the Trigger 2 but the cost was getting too close and I know I'd kick myself by not trying a Lefty bike once in my life...

Yeah I prefer the spec on the 4 (slx-deore) over the 3, and I happen to have a spare Reverb that'd fit. For me it's all about whether I'd kick myself for not spending the £800 more for full carbon, Lev and lefty..

I always fancied a lefty and thought why not for the F29 I bought from Pauls. All I can say is that it is unbelievable with the plushness and tracking. Mines only 90mm, but feels much more than that. It has taken about 1000 miles to bed in, but just gets plusher every ride. A riding mate said it looks weird and it does for a few rides and then you don't notice the missing leg, but when he rode it, he was totally wowed by it too.

I've owned a couple leftys previously, hence wanting to get back on one. I love their tracking and I think they look cool to boot.

Yup 2 bolts off it pop's and on it pops again not that you need you normaly need ti take it off.

Not sure how angles compare.

My wheels are better but it's 9 speed - this is 10.
My 31.6 Reverb will hopefully fit too.

It is two Lefty specific bolts. You loosen them a few turns and then the caliper and mount slides off. When you refit it goes back in exactly the same place as it was before. They use a 5mm allen key like the Lefty hub bolt. So not too difficult, but maybe a consideration if you are taking your front wheel off all the time.

Cheers, always been a bit 'lefty curious' and that doesn't sound too bad.

Anyone know if this has a Maxle-type rear axle?
Pics show a QR-type lever bit it's 12mm...

Mine fits in the car both wheels on. 2 Allen bolts loosen a couple of turns and the calliper comes off. Reatatches in the same alignment. It's still easier than taking the rear wheel off.

I was after a Cannondale Flash 1 earlier this year, spoke to the staff at Paul's who confirmed that they had four in stock and typically sell one per week. Went online to order that night and stock showed unavailable. When I rang up to check why the next day they confirmed another bike shop had been on and taken all four. Barstewards.

When I had my C'Dale Flash with Lefty I just loosened one bolt and just slackened off the other and simply rotated the caliber carrier out of the way and nipped up the 'open position', so no need to completely removed the caliber. I was always worried about stripping the thread on the axel as i can be a bit heavy nanded when tightening things, but I never did.

Whoops just stumbled across the Jekyll on Paul's website when I was supposed to be looking at a new bike for the OH.

Very tempted by the Jekyll 4, although don't think I'd need a triple - just can't justify the extra £ for a Jekyll 3.

So a quick question, I live in the not very gnarly Bedfordshire, but we do go to Austria often and we're looking at getting an apartment out there. I had my first downhill taster out there this summer (Wagrain bike park). Just wondering if this would be suitable for downhiling. Not wanting to get a full on DH bike as it would be wasted here. I would just be doing blue/easier red runs in Austria for the time being. Would the Jekyll be good for these type of runs?

Looks good that Jekyll 4. Personally I'd prefer that spec over the 3. Lob the big ring and that'd be fine for most Alps stuff.

I'd stick with a 4. I swopped out my Maguras for Zee's after cooking the discs and struggling in Spain with them. Rather Shimano than Sram too, but that's my choice.

Really tempted by a 4 for the missus, but struggling with sizing. She's 5'7"/168cm, riding a 16" donkeys old Cannondale hardtail and this'd be her first full suss. She previously rode a Trek Fuel demo bike in 17.5" and found that ok length wise. Any clues on whether she'd be better on a small or medium Trigger?
