My LBS is selling Synapse 3 (Ultegra equipped) with a 30% discount which brings it in around 1300 quid. Anyone ridden one as it SEEMS to be a good price.

I have a carbon Synapse Ultegra and it's a fantastic bike.
If I had to replace it it would be with another one without hesitation.
Only had a quick spin on last years model. Felt good, comfortable and quite relaxed (not unlike a defy). In the end I went for a caad8 because I got a very good deal in a 2012 model.
I have a Synapse. I love it. I dont know much about road bikes but it feels great to me. I had a CAAD8 before that hich was brutally rigid and very bum-sore after 5 hours but the Synapse is much more gentle but still has the same power-rigidity. Those asre the only road bikes I've ever ridden (but I do have about 6 C'dale MTBs) so not much knowledge I'm afraid,
