Hi
I have just bought a Cannondale Beast of the East 3 2017 frame off ebay. From my research it appears to require a 1.5 semi integrated headset (the frame hasn't arrived yet). I have a tapered steerer fork 1.5 - 1.1/8. From Cannondale spares website I see a KP205 headset would work. The bike appears to have been originally sold with a Tange 1.5 for tapered steerer headset. Can I use any 1.5 - 1.1/8 headset or does it have to be the Cannondale specific one? The Beast of the East 1 has a lefty fork and likely shares the same frame as the 3. I read that Cannondale may not have the same headset size standards. Just a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Dan
I vaguely remember some non standard sizing when messing with leftys and lefty for all on a 'dale and other bikes a while back but not shure what the current state of play is
these chaps are pretty well up to speed though
The last dale I had (2015) came with a straight 1.5 steerer
Thanks for the advice guys.
Here is a link to when the frame was sold as a full build. Seems to have been with a pretty standard tapered fork.

I can't seem to find many headsets for 1.5 straight headtube to fit tapered steerer.
I asumed all canondales come with a 1.5 head tube so they are lefty compatible?
Assuming so, you'd need a reducing top cup headset.
Ok so something like this might work?

Nukeproof Top Cup ZS49-28.6 - was then the Warhead, now the Horizon it seems.
That's the one I used to change from the stock straight 1.5 rigid fork to a tapered bouncy fork. Good bit of kit.
I have a cannondale habit carbon frame and recently replaced the headset with the KP205 you mention. The bike has a tapered steerer fork (pike) and the kit comes with reducer cups for the upper and lower head tube. Mine can be provided with a lefty, so the reducers drop the ID down to a “normal” bearing diameter.
I got mine from Cannondale Spares/Revel Outdoors who were very helpful on the phone so maybe give them a call. The headset was £31.99.
Edit, I remembered that I could have got away with just the bearings, HD169 x 2. These have a chamfered inner race on the lower, to sit on the top of the fork CSU, and then press into the frame inserts. The upper bearing has a reducer collar to match the smaller diameter upper of the steerer tube.
Superstar components headsets are very good and I think the upper headset is 1 1/8th in all options (including ZS49 and ZS56)
have a chat with them about it if unsure. I installed one in an old prophet, worked a treat. ZS upper and EC lower
Thanks all for your replies. I've done a bit of digging and the chris king headset finder and works components say that I need a zs49 (top) to EC 49 (bottom) for a 1.5 straight headtube to tapered steerer.
I'm still not sure that takes into account the cannondale factor! I've read around that the spacing in a Cannondale may be 50.6 and not 49.6 so if I use a non-cannondale headset like an FSA or the works angleset then the headtube may be too wide.
I don't have the frame with me yet to try measure. Anyone got any thoughts / experience on the above.
This was from a singletrack thread 9 years ago:
'alloy cannondales are generally 49.6mm so standard 1.5, the carbon ones and some alloy stoff that came with headshox or lefty forks can be 50.6 so you have to buy a cannondale branded headset, a nightmare to find in the uk but the guys (and girl) at http://www.cannondale-parts.de are your friend as i fount when trying to fit a tapered fork to a carbon rush'

not sure why any bike manufacturer would use a non 'one of the standards' headtube from the past 5 years. so if it shows up and is bigger (I would be very surprised), use metal putty on installing the cups!
The headtube inner diameter is 50.6 as trying to source a headset for the chap who bought my warranty frame. 49mm would be far too loose to use. Looking at stuff on Qwerty but not 100% happy its the right parts for a tapered 1 1/2 to 1 1/8 steerer.........
Measure the frame when it turns up if not sure?
Hope amongst others will do what you need I'm sure....
