But that's not going to make 1 1/8th forks fit a 1" headset though.

does your Cannondale have the Fatty headtube? If so it should be possible to buy either a reducer to fit it and allow 1 1/8th forks to be fitted or if it's got one fittee already it may be possible to remove the old 1" headset and fit a 1 1/8th headset to fit the new forks.

edit: to correct my appalling punctuation 😳

Ian - I had this problem when building up a Cannondale M400 frame I was given. I ended up finding some brand new 1" threaded forks at a bike recycling centre that employed troubled kids / teenagers. You will also need a compatible 1" stem with the same thread pitch which your LBS should be able to help with. Shop round & see what your local bike shops have left lying around I would suggest, or contact me if you have no luck & I can see if they have any where I got mine from, but it was a couple of years ago.

Presuming you meant "over 1K" please tell me you havent spent that much on an old cannondale frame with a 1" headtube 😯

I'm a big Cannondale fan but that seems a bit OTT

stems don't have "thread pitch".

OP I dunno if any suss forks are made in 1" anymore - if so they won't come threaded. Your frame is 20+ years old and even if there's much life left in it a fork that long will change the handling a lot.

SH is probably the way to go.

Ian - I cant think of any suspension forks available in 100mm that will come with a 1" steerer. You might try PaceCycles who still have 1" steerers available but unsure what forks they would fit. Also as Cynic says it will effect the handling badly. My rigid forks are 410mm long to give you some idea and look like this fitted with a threaded headset and a quill to threadless stem converter.

I love riding mine for road blasts and gentle Xc trails its just soo light and quick compared to the full sus. You take a bit of a battering on anything rocky but it certainly helps your technical skills & makes you appreciate just how far MTB development has come in the last twenty years.
