I had this email today from Evans about my Cannondale CAADX
We are contacting you as our records show you have purchased a Cannondale CAADX disc bicycle, which may be impacted by this recall. As the recall is a safety concern, please discontinue use of your bike and consult the link below to confirm if your bike is impacted:
https://www.cannondale.com/en/Great%20Britain/Safety-Notices-and-RecallsIf your bike is impacted, please discontinue use and respond to this email with your nearest Evans Cycles store in the subject line and provide an image of your full bike plus serial number (the serial number is two letters and five numbers). Once we have received those details, we will have your local store order and install the free, upgraded (black, full carbon) replacement fork.
We anticipate receiving stock of the replacement fork by mid-August onwards. To avoid unnecessary inconvenience please do not bring your bike into the store until they confirm they have a replacement fork there for you.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we look forward to getting you back out on your Cannondale as quickly as possible.
Kind regards,
Evans Cycles Product Recall Team
If you bought your CAADX used you may not know about this. Details here: recall notice.
Thanks - I have one of those so will be giving Leisurelakes a call tomorrow.
Thanks from me too. I have one I bought used so I'll go and see what my local dealer (Evans as it happens) says.
Thanks from me as well.
Thanks for the info, got one of these on C2W a few years ago.
Yep thanks as well.
My suspicion is it’s the bonding between the aluminium steerer tube and carbon rest of the fork.
The fix is a carbon monocoque fork apparently and there has been a court case over de-bonding of that interface previously.
Moi aussi. Thanks for the PSA. So rattling down a 45mph gravel descent last weekend was living on the edge then...
Thanks from me too. I have one I bought used so I’ll go and see what my local dealer (Evans as it happens) says.
Let us know what they say cp - We have two caadx's with the recalled fork and one of them was bought secondhand.
Anyone know if the Tiagra version is affected? Mine meets all the recall criteria except the ‘Ultrax’ stickers on the fork inner legs.
I think that's the key. I took mine in this morning and the four points in the recall was also the dealer's requirements for the return. Also had an email this morning from the guys who sold me the bike back in 2014
I didn't submit any receipt for the bike when I returned it. So second owner etc would not be an issue.
Anyone know if the Tiagra version is affected? Mine meets all the recall criteria except the ‘Ultrax’ stickers on the fork inner legs.
What year is it?
The recall is only '13-'16 and the spec for that year says ultrax fork which has external cable routing. Later years got full carbon forks with internally routed hoses.
Wonder what the replacement will be, because the later bikes also had bolt through forks where <'16 were QR.
Anyone know if the Tiagra version is affected? Mine meets all the recall criteria except the ‘Ultrax’ stickers on the fork inner legs.
Mine is the Tiagra. I never noticed the Ultrax stickers before until I looked closely yesterday. They are dark grey against a black background. Double check. But if they are not there then yours is not in the recall group.
Great bike - I’ll miss it until the fork gets swapped
Darn it. I've just updated mine with new brakes. No doubt the replacement ones will need different adapters etc. Will wait and see. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Linusr, just had a closer look and wiped the grime off, the ultrax stickers are there- off to the shop with mine then!

@Whereisthurso I replaced the crappy original Promax Render brake calipers for BB7s and I have full mudguards fitted. I hope the fittings will be identical. They should be.
Ive got guards for mine but decided it was wasted as a commuter so turned it back to a cx bike.
Looking at the specs of newer bikes they're bolt through and flat mount so unless we're all getting new wheels and brakes as well I presume Cannondale have gone out and bought/had made a load of compatible forks. It wouldn't exactly be a safety recall if the bike came back from the shop without a front brake!
FWIW I just emailed my nearest dealer and they just asked for photos so they can log it with Cannondale. I neither bought it new or from them so will have to buy something to relieve my guilt!
I bought a used one of these this week, a day later my mate highlighted the recall to me.
I’ve spoken to my local Evans ( chillfactore / Manchester ) today who said they were waiting for CSG to get the replacement forks in; likely to be mid August . They took my details and frame number so they could log it with CSG.
Shame I can’t ride it now for a few weeks!
Tbh it won't stop me riding it, dunno what the exact problem with the fork is but it's a 4yr old bike and hasn't killed me yet and there isn't any more risk tomorrow than there was last week.
The one in whatever chance of the fork breaking though this fault is probably significantly less than the chances of me going otb for some other reason with similar consequences.
Quite amusing - had a call from the lbs I bought my CAADX from. If I still have the bike, they need to replace the forks.
I wonder what they’d have done with the v-brakes once they stuck the spangly new carbon disk fork on..!
Mine was the Alu Tiagra model from before they had discs 😂
I'm being told it's now October for replacement parts...
Later years got full carbon forks with internally routed hoses.
Mine is 2017 I think. It's got internal routing, but doesn't have a full carbon fork. Wonder why the bonding on the 2017 is fine and not the 2016.
My lbs told me to get it to them next week. No mention of October.
I've now had an email from Evans Cycles saying my CAADX is booked in for 25 December - yes, Christmas Day! I went into the branch that is due to change the fork and enquired if this was a joke. According to the staff I spoke to there is a delay in getting the new fork. But Christmas Day? I was then told it would be sometime in October. Originally they had told me that it would be available from mid-August. Staff reminded me not to ride the bike. Anyone else had a confirmed date for a new fork yet?
My local dealer spoke to Cannondale today and was told November. Having recently tried to buy a cannondale topstone I already have experience of cannondale's ever increasing lead times (a couple of weeks quickly turned into a couple of months and then into 'we just don't know' before I cancelled the order). I'm not anticipating having the fork replaced this year that's for sure.
I was given all the talk about how I should absolutely not ride it in case of causing serious injury or worse but I'm pretty sure most people will when faced with a 6 month wait for a replacement fork. I think I'll be looking to see how much it would cost to buy a compatible one rather than waiting but I've a feeling it could be pretty pricey. Anyone know of any options?
I’ve been told mid October
Quick update for non-original owners.
I had an email back from CSG and they are providing replacement forks to everyone, not just original owners.
Evans have said the same and it's booked in... For Xmas day as well.
I've been told January is current expected date.
My lbs, after being really pro-active, have started to drag their feet.
Just had a call today from them that the serial number they’d taken from the bike was the wrong number. They took that number 2 weeks ago.
They now have the correct number from me so I guess I’m at the back of the email queue ☹️
I really want to have use of the bike through the autumn so will start causing a fuss soon!
I got the Christmas day email as well.
I'm NEA but this is bollox really if you wanted to respect the recall, as probably most casual riders who bought a CAADX just to commute on will want to do (tbf I'd be respecting the recall if I had only commuted on the bike - not stress tested). CDale saying your only bike is a potential death trap and we'll get back to you in four months to straighten this out.
You can't just instantly magic up 1000s of forks. Would you rather they kept the issue secret until replacement forks were ready?
Who's talking about instant fork delivery?
Replacement date is approx 5 months from official recall notice, and CDale will have been working on this issue for way longer than that. It's obv a major logistical operation but that is still a massive wait for an existing item (ie not a new design to fix a problem), and a damaging one for people who aren't especially attached to the brand.
I bought a reasonably cheap new frame and fork and transferred parts across. It had been my only road bike so I wasn't going to be waiting six months for a new fork. I appreciate not everyone is in a position to do that though.
I did consider just keeping riding it but I'd had a bit of a head on collision previously which had already put doubts in my mind about the reliability of the fork.
massive wait for an existing item
It's it an existing item though? I was under the impression it is a new fork design. The replacement is full carbon inc steerer and a casual look a few weeks ago suggested Cannondale's full carbon CX forks were 1.1/8->1.1/4 tapered.
Even if it was an existing item you can't suddenly make them from nowhere. Evans alone sold 4000 of the bikes in the UK apparently. Scale that up to the rest of the UK, let alone the world and you can see the scale of the task.
Ive got the same issue as you cp
My lbs questioned where the bike was bought from (not around here!)
Would you mind sharing the email from cannondale please or sending it to me - I contacted them weeks ago but not got a reply yet
thanks

I just e-mailed my closest dealer (Pedal on) and they took the frame details to register the claim with cannondale. Didn't seem fussed that it wasn't one supplied by them.
Maybe try a bigger dealer that will be dealing with 10's/100's of forks rather than one or two if it's a small lbs?
Out of interest, do Cannondale pay the dealers to swap the forks?
@hydrophil The Cannondale notice is here https://www.cannondale.com/en/Great%20Britain/Safety-Notices-and-Recalls /a>
Contact a local dealer from this list https://www.cannondale.com/en/Great%20Britain/dealers-near-you.aspx
Mine was fitted today - definitely a different model fork - straight bladed rather than curved, brake hose routing is better and mostly plain black so all in all the bike looks a bit sleeker now. Happy days!
Oh that sounds good. Is was hoping for straight forks 🙂
Post mount brake I presume?
Yes, post mount (although I was hoping to find a flat mount with a brand new brake caliper fitted to match).
@Markwsf You've had it fitted already? Are you UK based? I've not heard anything from Evans since they told me it would be mid-October. Does the fork have the same fittings for mudguards? Any chance of posting a photo?
I've emailed Cannondale
I'd be grateful if Cannondale would give an update about the CAADX recall. When are UK dealers expecting to get replacement forks? I understand that you can't just make the forks at the drop of a hat, but an indication to customers about the likely date of forks being available to UK dealers would be appreciated.
Lbs has mine waiting but ive not had time to go get it swapped. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and get it booked in and report back once it's done.
Complete radio silence from my lbs. The bloke who was sorting is never available and never rings back.
Very frustrating.
Yes, mine was fitted last week - it has all of the same mounts etc that the previous fork did - see pics below.

Hmm disappointed that it's not matte as the original / fashionable.
Bit of wet'n'dry and laquer will solve that if it bugs me though.
My original is gloss with lots of very obvious branding. That replacement looks fine. More importantly, does it alter the ride/handling which is a real plus point of the CAADX?
Yeah, it doesn't quite completely match, but it's very close - probably more to do with the fact the bike has not been cleaned for a while but the fork is shiny new. Graphics are a lot more subdued than the original, so it doesn't quite fit in. I guess they wanted to make one model of fork to fit several model years of bikes.
I can't comment on the handling as I've not ridden it since - I'm assuming it's identical geometry so should be unchanged though.
@markwsf Thanks for posting those photos. Really useful to see.
Has anyone chanced getting a replacement when their original fork doesn't have the decals inside the fork blades, and thus is ok?
Quite fancy an all carbon fork...
Cue lot's of cutlery based jokes... 😉
Some progress. I had this message from Evans today:
Cannondale have confirmed that we will receive at least 2 drops of forks a month and are being supplied in the order in which they were submitted.
We do ask for your patience whilst we work with Cannondale to get this turned around and you back out on your bike as quickly as possible.
Please be advised this is most accurate information we are able to provide you at this time and will provide updates when available. The store will make contact once your allocated fork has been received to make the necessary arrangements.
Thank you for your continued patience on this matter.
Kind regards,
Evans Cycles Product Recall Team
Mate has an affected bike/fork and is being told January (not Evans BTW) and it doesn't sound like they are offering fitting?
I asked about just collecting the fork but was told it had to be fitted. If i wanted it for DIY I had to bring the old fork for them to dispose of first.
Are people still waiting for forks? My LBS just told me today it will be January and the bike has been with them 2 months already 😒
Getting mine fitted tomorrow (they've had it about 6 weeks but Ive just been busy). Not sure if I just got in ahead of the rush, got lucky with the allocation, or the shop just got its order in with Cannondale before others. They're a big cannondale dealer and do a lot of mail order but not Evans.
I'm still waiting for Evans to give me a date for a replacement.
I haven’t heard from my LBS for a month or so. I’ll be ringing soon for an update.
Just been in touch with my LBS where I purchased mine and they are expecting forks to be in in January
As of today, my CAADX is finally at my local Evans shop having the fork replaced.
Still awaiting contact from LBS, this thread has reminded me to chase it up, ta!
Still not heard anything here, I'll get back to them tomorrow.
Just got back from pedal on, not a shop to go in with a credit card thats for sure, soooooo much bike porn!
New fork looks really good, except the mudguard drilling in the crown is really big and obvious (presumably its drilled out again after laquering). Will have to get creative with some sugru I think or find something to plug it.
The Dorel Industries share price over the last three years suggests a company that has got problems .
The Dorel Industries share price over the last three years suggests a company that has got problems .
A) Whats that got to do with a fork recall?
B) They make everything from Cannondale to baby parifinellia. Trumps trade war will be the worry to their bottom line, not a niche fork recall.
The Dorel Industries share price over the last three years suggests a company that has got problems .
People predicted the demise of Cannondale when Dorel scooped them up over ten years ago, Dorel owning the US equivalent of Apollo, widespread purveyor of BSOs. Instead, all manufacture was shipped to Taiwan and CDale has delivered a quality line up of bikes year in year out. Letting the bicycle people run the company and design bikes, whilst the money men police the bottom line has clearly worked out for them.
First ride on the new fork this lunchtime, 11 miles of typical CX stuff (muddy banks, grassy parks, woody singletrack, dismounts and hurdling benches) with some colleagues.
Aesthetics:
Visually it's a different profile, higher aspect ratio bladed sections, straighter blades and with wider shoulders (so more mud clearance, the old one looked marginal for clagy mud and 40mm tyres, this one easily has another 5mm all round so a 47 or 50 might even fit).
The gloss has grown on me, I think perhaps the old matte one was looking a bit tired but the new one looks really smart. I've cut some circles of gorilla tape to seal the mudguard holes for now.
It actually makes the whole bike look a lot more modern, which is great for a 5 year old bike! Matches the new novatec hubs I'd got too.
Ride:
The fork feels different, can't put my finger on it, maybe more vibration damping due to having a carbon steerer? If it's different it's certainly not in a bad way. Gave it a bit of a pounding through the woods, plenty of heavy braking and on some off camber banks and not a hint of twist or flutter.
Getting mine fitted next week from DMC Shrewsbury.
They have been great so far.
I picked up my bike with the new fork today and rode it home. Like @thisisnotaspoon says, it is a better fork in many ways, and even on the short ride it felt different. Since I use a mudguard on it in the winter the bolt hole is not a concern. I got this bike originally for £730 in a sale from Evans three years ago and its been a great bike - fast and fun to ride off road and a useful wet weather road bike. It's been three months waiting for the fork (although I did carry on riding it since Cannondale said they found nothing wrong with the old fork). I'm glad to have it sorted.
My LBS have my new forks actually in their possession! Might get to ride my bike before Christmas, when was the recall? June?
Yeah I had mine done about a month ago at the local Cannondale dealer. They tried to charge me £15 for the pleasure and forgot to tighten the zip ties holding the wireless sender to the fork so it could rotate into the wheel. Fing cretins. I won't be buying a bike from them - ever.
-The waiting time depends on when the enquiry was made, it will go into Cannondales replacement que.
-Unless the bike has had a significant crash\impact the old forks should be fine to keep riding on. -There shouldn't be any cost as the shop should get labour credit.
Mine was fitted today. Just need to fit all the bits I’d moved to another bike and I’ll be back on it.
Bike shop (Mike’s Bikes in Haverfordwest) have been great, fitted the forks while I was in the shops. It looks good in the flesh too.
I borrowed a Giant road bike while I’ve been waiting and it’s horrible...too racey and rim brakes scare me. The ‘dale suits me with it’s more upright position and wider bars. Time to get fit again!
just had mine done. Fork looks really nice!
with a 243mm steerer and with the headset bearing race, they weigh 506g
RESURRECTION ALERT
I've just realised, that my CAADX frame set in the loft (please don't judge me), is one of the affected models.
Anyone know if there is a time limit for this recall, or have I missed the boat. Local dealer is closed today
I think a call to the dealer would be your best bet since those links don't seem to work now.
As an aside - i want some mudguards for my CAADX, can anybody recommend a set please...
@markwsf’s looks tidy
