Been looking for a while now and for spec wise I think it's ok.

What you reckon?

Its top of my list too.

Others I've been looking at -

Spec Crux 2014 on sale - no mudguard mounts
Canyon infinite - shimano and no C2W
Pinacle akrose - cx11 not sure on gearing

I will be wandering around the cycleshow to see if there is anything else that can do winter/commute/fireroad and preferably has hydraulic disk / sram under £1500.

Do you have a good bike shed at work? What's the commute like? Do you do it all year round?

You won't go wrong with the bike, great ride, I have the tiagra one. Brakes are a bit ordinary on mine but maybe you get better ones in the rival spec.

Not a day in day out commuter for me, though - don't like gears on a commuter and the frame is too nice to be jostled by the shite that passes for bikes in our work bike shed. That's just personal preference, though - the bike is spot on.

Thanks Gary lager, just what I wanted to here. I'm 6ft 3 and I hope the biggest frame is ok for me.

Rorschach What's wrong with BB30?

It has got eyelets so how can it be hard to fit mud guards?

I'm on a 56 (at a baw hair under 6ft) and first impressions were that the standover was a bit snug. Don't notice this at all now, and feel like the bike is a good fit. 61 cm sounds massive so prob a good idea to try the 58 as well if you can?

Lemonysam, the bike shed is ok, I helicopter tape my bikes so no paint gets chipped or scratched. I have no choice but to lean the seat up against a steel post.

My commute is tarmac, rough at times with the option of cutting through a field. 9 miles each way.

There is a 60cm Rose on ebay I was having a serious look at it, I've no need for it though. May be of interest.

Cannondales tend to be quite long, I'm 6'2 had a CX-9 for commuting and rode a 58 where as in most road bikes (Cervelo, Genesis, BMC) I'm a 60 or a 61.

Agreed that they're a bit of a faff to fit mudguards and racks to but I made it work (The Thule strap-mounted racks are perfect for these frames), it's what you get for buying something that's on the racy side.

Don't be put off by the BB30, BB30 was designed for high-end aluminium frames like the CAD's, they don't have the alignment and tolerance issues you get on other bikes, I was getting 2 years out of a set of cheapo BB30 bearings no problem, just make sure you fit them properly.

In short great frames, light, tough, stiff, not overly practical compared to something like a Croix De Fer but pleasantly sprightly.

Go for it.

Oof! I was tempted by November, but Jan, as it is for you, is too far away.

I've got an 2013 alloy Synapse (Tiagra) for commuting duties/crap weather riding - fairly relaxed geometry, eyelets for proper mudguards and carbon fork. It's a cracking bike. I'm 6'2" and ride a 58cm - I don't think you'd need bigger. If I was, currently, looking for a commuter, I'd look at this - http://www.drakescycles.co.uk/m1b0s6p4442/CANNONDALE_Synapse_Alloy_Ultegra_Disc_C_2014

Looks good vfm.

Similar spec, better brakes imo.
Those 2 and the 105 version of the cannondale ore on my list.

Great list. I do like the cannondale superx but no mudguard eyelets. I'm going to see the cycle show today and have a look at rose. Try and see if they can get me one before January.
I'm also hoping the CAADX for £1399 is as nice as people are telling me.

Mudguards on caadx disc are a funny fit. Eyelets on the back are in the conventional place, but you need to clear the disc brake which is right next to it: i used a bolt from a v-brake block as a spacer but that is only good for the mudguard stay, i wouldn't mount a rack like that for fear of too much leverage on one m5 bolt and 10mm or so of spacers.... You would need a rack made to clear disc brakes and then have a good long think about how to mount both that and a mudguard stay into the same hole at the same time. Cannondale could of course have avoided all this by mounting the brake on the chainstay instead. Surprised that a company this size has not thought of this in the third year of production whilst lots of others already do....

Fork mudguard eyelets are halfway up the inside of the fork legs, so you need to bend and trim the mudguard stays to fit. This is actually pretty neat though, i am quite pleased the way mine turned out.

My bb30 went after about 600 miles and was replaced under warranty. But that was about the bearing rather than the frame/bb shell and so wouldn't necessarily put me off. The frames themselves are really well finished and ride lovely (i went down a couple of cm on top tube for mine and am glad i did) but yes if the wheels this year are the same then they are a bit rubbish.

Kona jake or jake the snake is worth adding to your list. I have had mine since January and its been great. Run it with guards and road tyres during the week and tben guards off, cx tyres on for weekend rides & the odd cx race. Only issue so far is the creaking bb30.
