I'm looking to build up a bike for commuting as it gets colder and wetter. My road bike isn't going to cut it, plus I'd rather keep it for longer training rides out in better weather. My commute is pretty short, few miles, and is on and off roads, e.g. roads, underpasses, cycle lanes, pavements...

This summer I stripped down my 29er and started to sell it. I only got as far as selling the frame and forks. I still have the wheels plus just about everything else to build a bike. My idea is to build something like the Cannondale Bad Boy, an MTB orientated commuter and I'm wondering which frame and fork to go for. (Would be a rigid fork)

My thought are something from On One, e.g. the Inbred (out of stock at the moment though).

or

As a complete alternative I've also thought about going for an On One Pompino flat bar build, for which I'd also have to buy some wheels.

Anyone got any other ideas?

I like the look of the Pinnacle Lithium, thanks! Might not be the right size left in stock though....

Carrerra Subway.
Add some 65mm Chromplastics, a rack/pannier & some 2" Big Apples & your sorted.
No point spending any more for commuting.
My behemoth. 🙂

If you are putting cross/road tyres on your wheels you could use a 26 frame and forks.
Cross tyres on 29 wheels and 26 forks.

Got one of these a few weeks back for commuting:

Absolute bargain for £240, and there's a 29er version for the same money. It's actually pretty descent to ride, has a bit of an old school XC feel and goes like stink. Looks nice in the flesh too.

Edit: only thing I've changed are the stock tyres. The gearing is also quite stiff for off road (42:16). It's also more rigid than a rigid thing due to cheap cromo fork and sturdy bars (this is coming from someone who rides a fully rigid mtb normally)

Thanks for recommendations

Along the lines of 29er wheels in a 26 frame, could also work for 29er wheels in a 650b frame, e.g. On One 4560B? What fork?
