Need a new shock for my Prophet and seen some cheap ones on CRC but the original has a 50mm stroke length and this one is 57mm.

Wondering if I run on the XC setting with 57mm with more sag if this will be the same as the freeride setting.

No, because to have the shock sagged through that much travel will mean that it will blow through the reminder too quickly.

I have a prophet and thought about doing this too.

Yes you can run a 200x57 shock on the prophet but In fr mode the rear tyre will rub against your seat tube when you bottom it out. If you run it in xc mode you'll have extra travel and your tyre won't rub your frame. I put a -2 degree angleset in my frame to compensate for this so basically xc mode is like fr mode but with more travel.
