Do-able? I have to stay over at Tamworth for a couple of nights next week, so was thinking about bringing my arkose along with me. Would Cannock be ok on the arkose or would I just be better off going out for a run?

Thanks

I've done Glentress red route on a CX. It's do-able but you get sore hands and it's not really much.... fun

It's been done. I reckon the dog would be fun to a degree, the monkey less so. Blue and greens would be fine too.

The dog would probably be a more fun than the donkey, maybe just go round the dog once or twice. Most of the 'tech' and drops etc is on the donkey. The dog is just more swoopy berms and runs with just a few drops. BUT there is more to Cannock than the groomed trails, lots of fireroads and bridleways pretty devoid of walkers and cyclists for you to hammer down. Maybe do some of the trails and if you find it horrible go for a wander. be careful after dark though, the chase can be a big place and then there's the wolves and the black eyed girl to watch out for.

Great, thanks. Reckon I might give the dog a spin.

And it is comforting to know that this is the guy who knows all about it

I was winding the kids up about The Pig Man of Cannock Chase last weekend. Worth a look.

Also the stories about the Werewolf by the German cemetery are spooky.

Do you know this rhyme then? Or is it made up?

"When night falls, enter the woods at your peril,

For inside lurks something worse than the devil.

Avoid at all costs the gathering place,

Where at midnight the pig-man roams on Cannock Chase.”

I've only heard about it recently TBH, I'm from about 5 miles down the road originally, and I don't know any proper old school 'chase' natives, they've all most likely been killed off by the black lung or liver disease though from the few I did know.

The black eyed girl is alledgedly the ghost of the girl murdered by a serial killer from birmingham. I've been cycling the chase many times in the dark and never come across anything untoward. Maybe a few deer scare the bejesus out of you when you're hooning it down the trails. Would love to see a ghost, I always wonder if I was to meet one would I go and try and talk to it like I think I would or would I cycle away as fast as I bloody well could.
