Is it likely to be a bog fest over there tomorrow or does it still ride ok in the wet?
I was there for a quick ride Thursday morning.. it's very muddy at the minute but very rideable. Some of the berms toward the end have big puddles in em and there are lots of new braking bumps.
Not recommended if, like me, you hate cleaning your bike. It's still fun though.
There are other paths to ride on Cannock Chase without churning up the Chase Trails ones which have been lovingly built by volounteers, who are now watching aghast as inconsiderate riders insist on destroying them by riding round when they are so clearly crying out for a rest.
Its muddy, full of puddles, not worth the visit at all, unless your going to help rebuild them??
Been raining here all day so far, gonna be a mudfest 😐

You did understand that in this country people mostly ride their bikes all year round, right? and that if you build a trail centre, people will ride it? Could you not have thought of this when you built them?
Big John does have a point, the topography and the physical make up of the ground around The Chase (very sandy) doesn't really lend itself to the sheer amount of use that it is receiving, given it's central location it does get busy there! Trouble is, it's not so much people like you, Nickc (i'm certain you do not fall into the type of person category that i'm about to describe) but by 'eck you do get a lot of muppets up there. This is clearly evident by the amount of litter that gets dumped on the trails, the lack of trail etiquette, and the sheer bad riding displayed, idiots who think it fun and cool to go skidding into corners ripping the place up. It's a fragile place and it can only take so much. fair play to Chase Trails, they do a cracking job with the resources they have at their disposal.

And what do you propose they do? More importantly who's going to pay for it or provide the labour? I've ridden there a few times (my first ever visit to a MTB trail), and I really appreciate the work that Chase Trails volunteers have done.
rode the monkey last weekend muddy churned up awesome fun.
As for all this whos going to repair it guff, why repair it omg some bumps and roots on a mountain bike trail whatever shall we do.
Was already wet over there, has rained hard most of last night & a lot of this morning, so expect much muddyness & wetness.Your call if you choose to ride it or not....

Shirely this is the nature of all activites, and when they made the trails they were very aware of this, as the several early FTD trails have over the years been closed and abandoned.

+1, I just wish they'd put a bit more into the maintenance or materials to make it last longer at the cost of many be a shorter route. But as with all armchair critic's I have no perfect 'answer', even if millions had been spent and the track built more durably there'd still be people moaning about it...
I hope those guys up there were trolling. Best keep quiet about your forum identities next time you go up there.

Close them perhaps? Or would that take away their right to be pissed off?
Look at the history of CT. Since they got the lottery money, they were able to build something that attracted people. This is what they wanted...can't have it both ways.
And yes, I have been a CT member since the day Gary Fisher ponced around the dog.
I'm not a Chase Trails member. I don't think they are complaining. I just don't like seeing mindless destruction of stuff.
What would be the point of building a trail that people only rode when it was dry ? Cos the other 50 weeks of the year it rains...
I wouldn't mind but every bugger moaned about it being too dry in the summer ! ! ! !
Just got back and can only say that the FTD/MT has dried out a treat, we avoided doing any off-pistes stuff as we had idea of it being a bog fest, so instead we had a great ride on the waymarked stuff. Lots of strangley positioned break bumps though, (as in why the hell were you braking there?) but the two MT descents are still brilliant.
.
Looking for a dry place to ride in the midland this weekend, pop there & have a blast, and at the end drop a few quid in the collection box for chase trails (by the till in Swinnerton's).
.
As with the Afan thread the other day, lots of rubbish lying around, in places where it could only be mtb-er's, ignorant gits. Picked a bunch up & stuck it on our packs, though probably looked like a couple of fat b*******'s who'd been munching, with it sticking out... honest we didn't do that till after's... 😉
