Got caught out last week with Cannock being closed, just seen the FB page saying it's closed again today, was going to head down to FoD. I've never heard of the forrest being closed but thought the more learned on STW might know?

We went last Tuesday, it was open then. Didn't see any signs saying it would be closed this weekend.

Cannock Chase isn't closed, and it wasn't last week. It's the Forestry Centre at Birches Valley which is closed to the public.
As with any foresty type environment you should use the area with care. Winds here are forecast to hit gusts close to 50mph at which point falling branches and trees are a possibility hence the reason the FC won't open the visitor centre to the public.
Whether the wind is as song as forecast I don't know but It's been windy here all night and is going strong now .
