I want to get a CCDB for my bike. But my budget means this will only be a second hand one. Are CCDBs specifically valved for a particular bike, or can the right settings for any bike be achieved using the adjustments?
Or my other option is to get a custom tune to an old Fox shock. Either from Mojo or TF. I've had good experieince of these tunes from Mojo in the past.
Does anyone have experience of either or both of the above options?
What would you go for?
I thought the main selling point of the CCDB was the fact it could be tuned to your bike much easier than others...
All CCDB's can be adjusted to suit nearly any bike.
There are options to have them custom tuned, but i have never felt the need,They are stunning, very smooth, and have no stiction.
What size are you after?
I'm after a 200x50.
A custom tuned Fox would be much more fit and forget - but where is the fun in that compared with the endless possibilities of screwing up your suspension with a CCDB...
For the money a custom Fox is hard to beat.
That worries me. Although I'm an engineer, I've never got on with adjutable shocks.
In the past I've replaced a DHX5 with an old Vanilla RC as I could never set up the DHX. Although the DHX was a bugger with all of the various adjustment linked ion some way. As I understand it all of the CCDB adjustments are independent of each other?
The updated model (has gold body) has a broader range of tuning. For linkage designs such as DW prob best to go with this rather than older ones.
Think there's a 200x50 on Ebay at the moment.
A 200x50 and a 200x57 are the same shock, the 50mm version has a travel reducer fitted, its a small spacer that fits underneath the spring retainer.
I might have one for sale in a few weeks(3 or 4) i have the travel reducer for it aswell.I wont have any springs,it is running at 57 at the moment.
I had a Pushed DHX coil on my Nicolai Fr,i then changed it to a CCDB,i wouldnt go back to the pushed dhx ever. The CCDB has no initial stiction and is buttery smooth,It takes a bit of fiddling to get it right and you need to know what you want.
For me a CCDB would prolly be a nightmare as I'd screw it all up and not know how to get it back to normal! I much prefer the idea of a fit and forget tuned Vanilla (even though I've got a DHX3, but that's pretty simple really - just got an air thingy to control bottom out).
I think it's hard to justify the massive increase in cost Vs the very small real world increase in performance over a proper tuned/PUSH'd DHX/RC4/Vivid, especially if you already have the latter.
And that's coming from someone who has previously run a DB.
