Has anyone upgraded the cane creek db inline to the latest db air IL (internals, air can, shaft, climb switch etc.), and if so, is shock noticeably better?

180 quid better, probably not. If yours is working fine and you have no issues maybe wait until it needs a service and get it done at the same time.

Yeah my shock has been surprisingly reliable, however its due a service so will look to upgrade then.

Hoping it lives up to the marketing hype, better small bump compliance and mid stroke support and all that....!

Had mine (upgraded) for around 8 months now and its been back three times for rebuilds, can't 'really' remember what the original was like but it wasn't remarkably different. I had it upgraded for the supposed increased reliability rather than performance, so hoping the last rebuild and new mounts TF tuned put on will make it so.

The first DB inlines performed amazingly well, they were just not very robust.

I would probably get the upgrade at service time with a view to extending the shock's lifespan, but I wouldn't expect a better ride.

When mine needs a service next im having the coil conversion, so you may want to think about that OP if your frame is suitable.

I didn't know they could do that Darren. I could have kept hold of my last one and put it on my Mega.

🙁

Darren, you can change an air inline to a coil?

Thats what I was told during my last conversation with them. You can also change the length, although not sure what kind of warranty would be included for the mods.

EDIT: Maybe someone from TF will confirm on here.

Yes you can convert a Inline/IL to a IL coil with a few parts.

All the Inlines we have serviced and fitted the new internals too or fitted the full IL air upgrade package too have been 100% reliable.

Just had this done. My DB Inline had gone some time since last service and the climb switch was having a lot less effect.

Arrived yesterday and looks cool as heck. Might try and fit it today if I get some garage time.

Wow! you can get a coil conversion for an Inline? Isn't that a bit of a Triggers Broom conversion? The two shocks look completely different from photo's so looks like a bit more than 'a few parts'. My Inline is due a service and if this is possible for sensible money compared to just buying a new Coil IL, then I'd do it in a heartbeat. A no brainer.

No

I and I think the other posts were referring to the conversion from DB Inline to the latest DB Air IL spec.

I agree though, looking at the large bag of bits that came back from TFT it does feel like it is a new shock....at a price admittedly.

Hi,

A bit of a resurrection to the post.

Bought second hand In Line Air CS. Just tried to compress it and it won't really move, even deflated... Well actually it is probably moving about 1/3 of shaft length and then it is stopping like by something inside.

Am I having dodgy one by any chance? Seller claims only 30h riding and bought new last year...

Cheers!

I.

Even with all the air out it will ramp up - might even have volume reducers inside.  Get it on a bike and gently compress with air valve core out if possible.

heh... That might not happen for another 10 days or so, as I'm off to Holland for SSEC this Thursday...

Will give it a try upon return.

Thanks!

I.

I had the Inline air on my Banshee Spitfire which had problems from very early on.  I had it upgrade when that becme available.  The upgrade lasted about 8 months before it starting losing air.  That was the 3rd time it had the same problem.  Spoke to TFT about it and decided the sensible option was a coil.  After much discussion I took up the option of converting it to an Inline Coil with Vault spring about 6 weeks ago.  It was bar far the cheapest option.

So far it is has done a weekend in the the Lakes, Bike Park Wales and Cannock and is night and day compared to the air.  Never having had a coil previously it does feel very, very different in a very good way.  Should also note TFT (Dave in particular) were very helpful and tolerant in helping me set it up and explain why it was so different and generally provide excellent customer service.

How much does this "conversion" end up costing then, has it been worth the price for how the bikes now feel?

Mine cost a standard service plus about £100 including the spring. Worth it, if only because it won't be p****** air out after a few months. Also the bike feels very different mostly in a good way. The climb switch makes more sense on the coil for me.
