I got one of these about 6 months ago. Been very happy with it so far. A bit of a spontaneous purchase at the time and have since been reading about the unreliability of these things, but hopefully i've got one of the newer and improved ones. However over the last few rides i've noticed that the sliding shaft is wetted with black oil. I'll wipe it off and it re-appears again after a ride or two. Is this a symptom of a problem unit? It seems to be working fine, better than ever actually, no change to how it is working but if it is in the process of failing then i'd rather get it sorted sooner rather than later. So what are the symptoms of a failing DB Inline?

Cheers.

If oil is leaking something has already failed. Might as well get it sorted in case air starts coming out at the same time

6 Months old is old enough for a CC shock to be needing a service. Unlike most shocks they really do need to be serviced at the right intervals in order to maintain function. Iikely the seal head is going on the damper, so you'll start to lose damping soon. Would all be fixed with a service though.

Cheers, better to be safe than sorry I guess and get it serviced while it's still under warranty just in case. Shame, i'm considering replacing my forks as i'm shopping around for a new frame and quite fancied their new Helm forks, but not sure I would want to splash so much cash on something that has a dodgy reputation.

There's a point, if it's under warranty send it back for the leak and it'll no doubt get serviced anyway

Where did you buy the shock from? There is a good chance it could be one of the older ones been sold off and they would have the older internals.

Just seen one that was 2 years old, used a lot, never been serviced and all still working fine. The shocks are very reliant on having good frame alignment though.

I got it from one of the usual internet places, Winstanley's I think, but they were on sale so could very well have been one that's been sat on the shelf for a while. I'll pop it off to TF Tuned.
