Any views whether a Cane Creek Double Barrel results in a marked improvement over a Fox DPS EVol Factory on an Orange 4? I've noticed a few times the rear gets out of kilter at speed on the rocky stuff.

The CCDB Air has a pretty bad rep for reliability which is enough to put me off considering one

Do you mean the Double barrel or the DB inline? Not sure about it on an Orange but I have one on a Banshee spitfire and it's been great. Got the fixes all done by TFtuned at service time last year so touch wood. It's incredibly adjustable but there would also be a base tune for an orange listed that you can start with. Get it set up right and it's very composed, I'm sure it would help with the relatively simple single pivot suspension on an O5

The DBinline had reliability issues (I think they're sorted now). I've never heard anything about the DBair being unreliable and the one on my Spitfire (an original DBair-CS) has been great. A very composed feeling shock, should work well on the short travel single-pivot.

Thanks for your comments 🙂

It is the Cane Creek Double Barrel Air Inline I'm interested in and a new one at that to avoid the reliability problems with the earlier models.
So good to see feedback for the Spitfire and note that it 'should work well on the short travel single-pivot' but has anyone any experience setting up the shock on a single pivot? Unfortunately there are no base settings on the Cane Creek website for the Orange 4 with a Double Barrel Air Inline
In terms of set up does anyone have any experience of the back up from TFTuned or SlickandSlide (reasonably local to me is that matters) ?

Thanks

I’ve been very impressed with TFTuned’s service. When they serviced my DBair they gave me new settings based on my current settings and the feedback I’d given them about how the bike rides.

Also had my dB air Cs upgraded at tf tuned, excellent service and really works well on my banshee rune.

I've got one on the Five I'm selling. If you buy from TF they'll put a base tune on it for you, there's then a Cane Creek app you can use to help with setup (write everything down too though, it deleted my saved info)

mashr - how did you find the Cane Creek on the Orange 5 - significant improvement over the rough stuff and stopped the hooking on edges?

Looking good for TFTuned - spoke to someone there and stacks of enthusiasm/knowledge.

You might find yourself underwhelmed. It’s a very good, well controlled shock, but the hooking up is more of a characteristic of the layout than the shock ime

I had wondered if the hooking up was just part of the single pivot experience and difficult to remove.
Should reduce the frequency of the rear feeling out of kilter at higher speeds on the rocky stuff though?

Might do, having not ridden your bike I can’t say why the rear would be getting out of shape anyway. Could just be a tuning thing
