Looking to possibly hire a canal boat for my 40th this summer and doing a ring from Leeds to Rochdale to Huddersfield in a ring taking in 3 canals and 10 to 14 days riding ,i hired one for my wedding and it was fantastic just how realistic would it be to hire and drive/pilot one and get a few hours riding in each day as a circular route around Upper mill/stalybridge Huddersfield Leeds/Bingley skipton burnley rochdale would be epic
That would be awesome!
Take a look at htis canal route planner - Water Explorer
Put in your proposed route and it will give you distance, no. of locks and time to complete.
If you are riding the towpaths then go tubeless or have some tire sealer running to battle all those thorns!
Good circuits from Skipton and Bingley, small jump park by the canal at Thackley (buck woods).
how many locks?
its slower than walking to take a boat IME - lived on one for years.
I assume you are not soloing locks ? DONT is my advice tbh unless you know what you are doing.
Roughly 3 miles per hour and say 1 lock per hour if you are inexperienced [ you may even need to fill them to use them]
Its slow moving but I dont know that route and cannot get that interactive tool to work
I found it quite dull tbh to do long tours but YMMV as it is new to you
well there is a crane in the Leeds canal at the moment!
