Fancy making some changes to the wheels on my transmitter - it's hard graft pedalling it round the place, and it swaps ends in the mud [not a problem atm, admittedly]. As a first step - would it be possible to run a 2.6 tyre on the rumpus rim (45mm wide)? Or is this not a good idea with the tyre profile etc?

Feel like the bike isn't really suiting my riding right now, but something at the slimmer end of B+ wheels might make all the difference.

Possible but (given I hear that 2.6" is a croc) it might be at the edge of sensible/pointless on such a wide rim. Not sure how it's giong to solve your problem wither btw, sound like you need a grippier tyre?

I've the 2.8" WTB Trailblazer on a Rumpus rim and the sidewalls are wider than the tread so I'd imagine a 2.6" tyre would be worse. Actually the TB is closer to 2.5" but even so I'd consider a rim in the 30-35mm width for the 2.6", the 45mm width is perfect for genuine 3" tyres though.

Thks - basically looking for livelier wheels as the whole thing feels a bit dead to pedal, and thought 2.6 might be good to try without having to change wheelsets.

2.6 not well regarded then? Why is that - halfway house affair?

I think that the issue may well be with the rims in terms of the "dead to pedal" comment. The Rumpus, although beefy and strong, is a bit of a boat anchor. Regardless of which rubber you fit, it will still be quite a portly rim to lug around the place.

I'd go with the above comments about the rim width too. It's much better suited to the bigger rubber. 2.6 is likely to be way too squared off, with the sidewalls wider than the tread of the tyre.

My own set up - I found 35mm internal width to be the sweet spot between tyre support and rolling efficiency/weight for 2.6-3.0 tyres. It's a little more draggy on roads than the 29er - but interestingly rolls way better offroad on anything bumpy.

As for mud - well...... I ride mine all winter but have had a couple of offs in slop. you definitely need more bite than the Nobby Nics I'm sporting!

I’m running 2.4 High Rollers on mine with 26mm internal rims and its great. The Transmitter isn’t a plus bike at all itsa 27.5 hardcore hardtail. 😊
