I got the hope ceramic BB last summer and it has been a joy - but it has got me wondering

Can you retrofit ceramic bearings into Pro2 hubs?

if so, do you know anyone who has done it? is there a kit?

if not, why not? would it be a dumb idea?

You should be able to, you just need to change the standard bearings for ceramic ones. If you give us a buzz on 01473 255247 we mey be able to sort you out with some Ceramic Speed ones. (They're not cheap though!)

Cant see why not. If you brought the correct size bearings why wouldn't they?

In fact here you go have a couple of links where you can buy the front bearings. You can be the guinea pig.

And superstar do a kit for the that costs £90

Ceramic speed ones are incredibly expensive and their longevity on an mtb is poor, they're poorly sealed to reduce drag.

Superstar do some inexpensive ones, or wheels manufacturing, or try Boca Bearing, they do everything!

Can't see why not, but I can't see why you would want to either. Ceramic bearings are normally used for one of two reasons: Very high-speed (ie. tens-of-thousands rpm)running, where the lighter balls reduce stresses on the raceway, or electrical insulation to prevent short circuiting through the bearings of a motor. Neither applies to an MTB, oddly.

By all means go ahead, but you won't see any performance advantage for the extra cost.

It's about duraility PhilO - less corrosion.

I bet he changes them before the old ones wear out though!
