I just got some Marzocchis, described as 120mm air Bombers, but can you tell what they are?
I suspect they are 22LO or MZ LoPro, about 2008 or maybe earlier DJs
Brake stud holes are M8
There is approx 130mm stanchion showing
There's a Schrader valve on top of one leg with an adjuster on the bottom
the other leg has a lockout lever
Lower legs have been repainted black
Stanchions are TiNitride I think
Steerer is steel
Serial Number/s T06D1012 3011660595

Does anyone know what they are?
Or even if they need any oil, air pressures, is there a rebound adjuster inside, and can they be converted to coil?
sadly can't see pics on my crap computer, but
Stanchions are TiNitride I think
Steerer is steel
sounds unlikely - they didn't do a TiN coating that I am aware of and certainly wouldn't have used it on steel-steerer forks which were usually OE. The standard ano of the time on Marz stanchions was a slightly TiN/olive coloured. Pretty sure the "06" early in the serial number refers to model year.
Is the Schrader on the top of an air spring leg, or air pre-load on the damper leg (adjuster at bottom suggests it's this). Most air forks (with the damper in 1 leg and air spring in another) can be converted to coil.
Oil level, likely to be here

Which is a great resource for Marz forks generally.
I was told I had Ti Nitride on my Z1s, which were the 1st of the 150s, around 2003.
You're probably right though, this is a cheap fork
Sorry about the pics, I can't see them either. Theyre on dropbox. Maybe I need to resize them

Just out of interest did some google archive searching, potentially Marz at least tried to use TiN but like PACE and everybody else found it didn't stick to the stanchions and moved on

As for ti nitride stanchion tubes...we had trouble perfecting the quality of production. For now, our focus is anodizing, nickel treatment, and Gold Race Coating.
so if they are TiN coated, you're lucky if there is any left on 😉
I still can't see them, but I'm on a work computer which tends to block pictures etc anyway. Merlin, CRC etc used to sell on OE Marz forks with steel steerers - we've still got some 2004 Marz MX Comps like that, which are air sprung.
If we take the "06" to mean the model year, then have a look at their range pictured here
http://www.marzocchi.com/Template/listProdotti.asp?LN=UK&idC=1737&IdFolder=113&idMY=28182
(or go back a page and you can select the year of manufacture and review the whole range).
I saw that site, but couldnt decide. great info, but pics are not so good
Someone mentioned an adjuster inside
They look like marathon, Dj3, 22lo OR MZ PROLO, COULD BE ANYTHING
I had some xfly before, they had low air pressures and getting it right was important
yeah marz use high volume low pressure air springs, probably why their air forks were plusher than others and they recommended having a special low pressure shock pump. Combined with their huge oil volumes that meant extended service intervals there was a lot to be fan of. My 55R's also weighed 7lbs, twice the equivalent RS Revelation, which was slightly less awsumz....
sure, but I'm a great fan of their coil shocks. I have some 888s too.
Saved my neck aseveral times
They are pretty old, whatever they are. I'd guess 2006/7/8 - probably no later (they started using black and silver stanchions in 08/09 IIRC)
They could potentially be OEM spec.
Deffo not any of the Dirt Jumper series
Deffo not a fancy coating on the stanchions
Adjuster on the bottom of the leg will be rebound
They'll probably be coil sprung with air assist
They'll have lots of oil in them
The lever on the top of the leg will probably be ETA
Steerer tube looks like steel which makes me think not an expensive/top of the range model
I think you're on the right lines with the MX series
Also; model year will be stamped on the fork leg near the dropout somewhere. For some reason, for example, if it was an '07 model, '06 would be stamped on the leg
there is 06 stamped in a design by the disc mount
There was 46psi in the fork
with no air in it I can push them down to (only)about 50mm from full travel
the lever on one side is a lockout
stanchions are 30mm
I guess there could be spacers etc inside to change travel?
I'll have to open them up soon when I have the tool
They're 07 forks then I'd suspect.
What you say about the air does suggest they are coil with air assist IMO.
IF they do have spacers, they should be on top of the spring just underneath the top cap. Putting them in the bottom of the forks on the rebound spring lowers the travel.
I think they'll be fixed travel though.
For some reason, for example, if it was an '07 model, '06 would be stamped on the leg
year of manufacture of the part (so casting the lowers) not model year, to help them identify any issues with batches for failures or recalls? Likewise my 2010 RC3Tis have that little symbol with '09' in it (is it a circle with a mark indicating the month?).
yes,its like a number in a chainring
umm..
I just unscrewed the cap using the lockout screw..
(which incidentally has 2turns of adjustabilty)
there is some springy thing in there
I just need a 22mm spanner...

Yeh, that makes sense.
