Does this exist? I want a child seat which is totally removable and does not require a bracket to remain fixed to the bike.

I imagine not, but I'm interested to hear if anyone has come across such a thing
Cheers

If you have rack mounts, then you could get a Co-pilot and remove the whole rack (it's only four bolts)

4 bolts to remove a Hamax bracket - probably not a huge difference in faff?

Always left the Blackburn rack on our tandem with a Rhode Gear, but yes, removal of four bolts is pretty fast if you must. Used to do this for my fixed wheel road bike for club runs. Now I just have a smaller tubus rack and an 80 kilo child 😉

I allways mounted ours to a spare seat post, so just a Q/R to swap

Weeride seats are fully removable - they attach to the toptube/headtube and seatpost.
I much prefer this type too. Your child is between your arms - it feels a lot safer than having them behind you. My daughter is still ok in hers at 2yrs 3mths, but will probably be too big in a few of months.

Wee ride seats brackets are a faff to take off and on though - especially if you're trying to do it without scratching your top-tube.

Any reason for a seat as opposed to a trailer? Went from a wee ride to a trailer and can't understand why we didn't sooner.

Thanks for all the ideas. I've been looking at a trailer too, but the bulk and storage put me off

My children have all been totally removable, but they don't seem to stay removed.

Burley trailers like the Solo are far from Bulky, and amazingly light. They also fold down completely flat and can be totally disassembled in minutes

Flat-folding trailers are probably easier to store than rear-mounted seats, IME. There are more compelling reasons why you might want one or the other.

I have a double trailer. Currently folded and in my garage, hasn't been used in about 4 months. The hitch is still on my bike that's ridden almost daily though

The same bike also has a rack as it's my commuter. My child bike seat attaches to this in a really neat and secure way, is easy to do and takes less than a minute. Just a knob to turn to close the clamp around the rack

So 1 rack has 3 different purposes
- rack pack for commuting
- folding milk crate for shopping
- child bike seat for whenever I want to take one of my kids

There is a Topeak (I think) proprietary slide-on-and-clip arrangement. You can slide the bike seat on and off with one clip. You can get rack bags and stuff. Obviously this is sod all use if you don't want a back rack...

im sure these are all fine and strong etc...but 'quickly removable' and safe & secure don't go hand in hand (search for the past post where someone's kid and seat flew off the bike when they got bumped)

Even the cheap Halfords double trailer we use folds flat. Like Someone said, the little hitch stays on the bike all the time.

Look at the box they come in. A friend's lives behind their settee.

If there are other reasons for not wanting one then good luck in your search. I will say though that having used a rear mounted seat, a wee ride and now a trailer, the trailer is better in every way; safety, usability, comfort for the children, control of the bike with children on it / behind it.
