Can you buy a wobbly tyre?

I've heard of wobbly Maxxis tyres before but I've never had one.

I got this new Forekaster a few weeks ago and had my first ride the other day just around the streets. The tyre was wobbling side to side so badly I could feel it in the bars.

So the tyre has been removed and refitted. The bead is 100% perfectly seated. The rim is a carbon Reserve and it's the straightest wheel I've ever owned so it's not that.

The wobble is definitely just in the treaded part of the tyre and it's really obvious. You can see it and feel it. I can't see any damage or defects while it's not spinning.

I've tried to film it.

I haven't contacted the retailer yet I'm going to email them when I get home. Any bets on the response? New tyre or jog on?

I have seen it before. Contact the shop you purchased it from and if no joy then contact the importer/distinutor.

I've had refunds on a series of Schwalbe tyres like that. Best to do it before it looks worn. One shop was a little difficult as they seemed to think the tyres are checked by lazer at the factory and wanted to see it themselves, but then didn't have the right size wheel to hand. Not had an issue with Maxxis myself but I ride with a guy who has a High Roller or DHR on the rear much further out than yours.

If the retailer is local, I'd take the bike in with the dodgy tyre on it and let them see/feel it.

If it's mail order, presumably you can just return it within 14 (?) days of purchase anyway??🤷

It's mail order and I've emailed the shop. I hope they're not dicks about it, I'd be happy with a replacement as I'm still keen to ride it.

I've had it about a month but didn't manage my first ride until last Sunday. I didn't have time to double check it during the week.

I had it with a Bontrager tyre I brought from Trek UK direct, they supplied a new one without me returning the wobbly one.

That's what I'm hoping for. It'll be a PITA if I have to go out and return this one and wait all week for the turnaround.

I've experienced it with some Continental Mountain Kings years ago, which got  refunded. I've also experienced it to a lesser extent on some Vittoria Bombolonis. They were out of balance, but still useable.

i didn’t suppose the distance selling rules mention tyres covered in sealant. But there must be something that covers not sending the goods back covered in latex

I hope the OP gets sorted

So, the retailer passed my video on to the distributor and they want the tyre back to check for defects so any chance of a quick turnaround is out of the window. I have to post it back at my expense. They say they'll refund postage up to £8 but is it possible to post anything at all for £8 these days?

I removed it and refitted it multiple times to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong and it's still super wobbly. I replaced it with a 4 year old Minion DHR and that's perfect in comparison. Before I boxed it up I spent forever trying to remove all the sealant so I'm sending it back in almost immaculate condition.

I haven't even found the time to ship it yet so I'll be waiting a while for their decision.

Does anyone want to place bets on the response? I'm guessing something like "This tyre is perfect and we have never heard of this problem before. We can not detect any trace of wobbly tread under workshop conditions".

My money's on the classic "there's nothing wrong with it but we'll replace it FoC as a goodwill gesture"

Brand new Forekaster in the house. No questions, no accusations, just a straight swap. No drama, thankfully.

The shop was Tweeks by the way. I was prepared to flame them if they messed me around!

If this tyre isn't round I'll be asking for a refund.
