Fitted some new cheap and lovely Deore MT400 brakes to my 'dale a couple if weeks back and they are epic. The front slightly edges the rear in terms of feel as the bite point on the lever is almost at the released position. Just how I like it.
Today however the bike had been in the sun all day and the front brake is ever so slightly binding, slightly as in give it a spin and it stops in 10revolutions or so.
Can the heat of the day cause all the fluid to expand enough to cause a problem? I've recentred the caliper but there doesn't seem to be enough space between the pads.
There will be a tiny amount of air trapped, that will be expanding.
Ta. I shall tap away at the caliper and hose to get the bubble to move north to the bars and then consider a bleed.
I've seen avid guides do this
Left my old bike in hot car once and fluid/air expanded so much I couldn’t even get the wheels out till they’d cooled down. Can well believe weather has caused some binding...it is hot 🥵
Yes, took a freshly bled bike to France three weeks ago and in the plus 35 degree heat it needed a little fluid released.
There were two bikes on our group ride this evening with binding breaks; one Sram, one Shimano. Must have been the heat.
SRAM Guide pistons get sticky. Think it's caused by expansion and friction from dirt. They're dead easy to strip down and clean though.
Original version of SRAM Guide has a flaw where the lever piston sticks in the heat. That's been fixed in newer ones.
I had some Juin R1s cable operated hydraulic brakes.
With the garage door open my bike front wheel and forks got full sun for quite a few hours.
Always a bit draggy when left like that.
