Hi all, i'm planning on going to Wharncliife for the first time in about 20 years in the next week or 2 & was wondering if anyone had a gpx file that would provide me with a decent loop?
The last time i was there, we used to bimble round the remains of the original red loop.
Do you want a cross country type loop, or to explore the DHÂ / enduro trails? If the former, tbh I'd probably go and find something in the Peak (perhaps cut gate if the icy conditions persist), if the latter then park here and ride along plank gate until you see some trails heading up the hill on your left, or here and cross the rail bridge and turn immediately left along the path, follow it until you get to the forest and turn left. You will then be on the same fireroad (ie plank gate) which runs along the bottom of all the trails. If you look uphill you will see several billion different options for coming down, and a handful of fire roads for getting up.
I was wondering the same thing the other day as I too haven't ridden there for about that long! If you click on Strava leaderboards for segments in Wharncliffe on random people you can see the rest of peoples' rides and get an idea of fun loops. I haven't gone out to try any out yet, but seemed like a burly XC loop with some fun stuff in would definitely be makeable.
