Just wondering...
I heard they aren't really meant to be taken apart and serviced 'properly', but is it possible to stuff them full of new grease or anything?
Ah.. does that widget have a name/code?
If they are old pedals, you'll never get enough grip on the plastic thingy to undo them; You can drill a small hole in the outer edge of the pedal, in line with the axle and use a grease gun to squirt grease in..
That plastic tool has worked fine for all my 520 pedals, some of which are getting pretty ancient now. They are servicable once you get them apart. the best bit is squirting grease into the pedal body and then watching all the gunk get squeezed out when you do it back up again...
Edit: - I put the plastic tool in a vice though and then unscrew the pedal - I agree that you can't do it by hand grip alone.
Where can I obtain one from?
Indeed, where do they come from? i would like one of these! 🙂
Thanks. Lots of them about: http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=SPD+axle+removal+tool&scoring=p&show=dd&sa=N&start=0
