Have a pair of 03 Pro Bombers that used to run Hope 165mm rotors. Thinking of upping to 185mm via IS adapter.

However, I read last night that Marzocchi weren't keen on recommending bigger brakes back in the day + some scientist(?) did a test around that time to demonstrate how the QR can blow out. Not good.

Anyone know any better and lived to tell the tale? Ta

My brother has been running 203 rotors on similar vintage bombers for years with no problems, cant see 185s offering too many problems. Love those old bombers, still perform well and never need servicing!

Ran 185 on my 1999 Z1s. Yeah they got a bit twisty but that was just part of their character

I agree with your sentiments re being a proper no faff fork.

I think all my QRs are Hope our Shimano so fingers crossed they're good enough to handle any flex.

Will order the bits later today, ta.

As above, use a Shimano QR. You'll be fine.

the forks usually have a sticker telling you how big a rotor you can fit. but i think this was usually to prevent unnecessary warranty claims.
in that case as your forks are an 03 model you dont need to worry about any warranty
FWIW i used to run a 203mm rotor on some 2002 Z1 wedges without any issues
if you've got v-brake bosses leave them on with the bolts fitted too as the bosses and bolts are parts of the forks structural integrity

Why aren't other forks this reliable?

Seriously, I was riding with someone with '03 Bombers the other day.... still supple as butter.

What gives?

Ran 203mm discs on my '03 Dropoffs for years no problem and I'm no lightweight either so I'd think you should be fine.
