Can I use a 140mm Pike on a Yeti SB130 LR?

It's designed around a 160mm fork, usually Fox so probably dropping 24mm going to RS 140mm. I appreciate it will be more than a degree steeper but that doesn't bother me. Or should it?

I really like my current Select+ fork hence the question.

Thanks

mmm not sure, mine felt great with a 160mm. Were the Non LR 140? You could try it and see, but from memory I think the LR definitely "needed" the longer fork.  You're not close to the FoD are you? I have a 2021ish lyrik sat here at 160mm doing nothing you're welcome to try back to back.

I think the normal 130's had 150mm fork.

The LR had slightly more rear travel and they paired it with the 160.

Not sure how a 140 would effect the geo considering the base bike had 150.

I'd be more bothered about pedal strikes from an overly low bottom bracket if the geometry change isn't an issue.

It's pretty straightforward (and cheap) to swap the air shaft on a Pike to change the travel to 160mm. Stick the serial number into the RS Trailhead app to get the correct model number so you buy a compatible shaft.

Thanks all. (And particularly to Alex for the offer but bit too far lol). Pedal strike will indeed be an issue!

160mm conversion of the spring sounds like the right decision !

Not for some time it hasn't been... Modern Pike is a 120-140mm chassis, it can't go any longer than this...

All correct... The extra rear travel on the LR came from "stroking" the shock from 52.5mm to 55mm which yielded just shy of an extra 7mm of travel iirc... Geometry was unaffected, other than the addition of 10mm more fork travel though, as the extra stroke in the shock travel comes at the end of the travel, not the beginning.

A 140mm Pike will steepen the stock SB130 geo by around 0.4deg and probably drop the BB another 3mm over stock. Reach figs will also increase a few mm and the stack height will drop by just shy of 10mm too, and the wheelbase will shrink by a few mm too... You'll probably end up with a 66deg HA, BB height a shade above 330mm, and around a 465mm reach in a medium or 485mm in a Large.

Give it a go... You might like it! It's not a drastic change anyway... And if it feels crap, then this would be a very cheap and effective way to remedy it...

I was also going to suggest the Reverse Components angle spacer, you can use your fork without changing the geometry so much

Thanks. This is my fork so not sure how old it is. I thought is was 2021. So confused as Trailhead says it is compatible with the 160mm spring.

I thought I had the latest generation Pike but maybe not, could someone tell me?

Or have they restricted travel options since then without necessarily changing the chassis generation?

Also that lovely Reverse angle thing doesn't work with integrated headset sadly.

So choice now is either new spring or £400 for a 150mm Lyric Ultimate from Merlin (still not the ideal travel but perhaps OK). My fork work well but probably needs a service so I might get £200 for them as is whereas service plus new spring means I will have spent £100+ and still end up with a used fork that probably flexes more than the Lyric, albeit has the "correct" travel.
