Don't think you have a tapered headache so you wouldn't be able to

You'll need a tapered or 44mm ID head tube, which I very much doubt you have. So no. You can't.

IIRC The 2006 Trance has a 44mm ID head tube so you can run tapered with the right headset.

Headtube is Big. It's a semi integrated zero stack headset not a 1"1/8 head tube.

I 'think' sum is right but before I commit cash on New forks I was hoping someone had done the measurements and knew what headset I might need as I don't really want to strip the bike if I don't have to.

Cheers

Yes, you'll need the correct bottom cup to run 1.5" in a 44mm headtube.

I use Hope's 'H' bottom cup to run tapered forks on my bikes which have 44mm internal diameter head tubes (including my Trance).

Giants specs for the 06 trance list a 1 1/8" head tube.
The 07 is definitely a 1 1/8, the 08 went tapered.

There could potentially be a full size head tube on yours but I doubt it. Simple way of doing it is to just measure it up and see what you've got. The internal diameter is either going to be 34mm or 44mm, so if you add a could of mm for the head tube you know if the diameter of the head tube is around 38mm you can't, and if it's around 48mm you should be able to use the hope H bottom cup.
