Sorry to ask about road bikes but the front mech on my campag 9spd triple winter bike has cried enough. Can I simply replace it with an MTB shimano one from the spares box or am I stuck with finding a compatible campag one?
There is a lot of trim in the gear levers so I was hoping I might get away with it.
i am using a 105 triple on my campag double equipped road bike.
I don't know if things have changed re compatibility in more recent years as this is 5-6 years old 9spd.
May be worth a try but the curve on the mech plate will be much tighter which is the most likely source of incompatability - will have to sit way too high to work.
This is at least 10 years old if that makes any difference
With a bit of fiddling about it should work just fine.
I used to run an old LX (1997ish)front mech with Veloce 9sp shifters (2007ish)- what sort of triple? Mine had on olde worlde mtb chainset with 46-34-24 and worked a treat.
~Yes.
the curve of the mech may mean that it has to be a touch high. I like mine with the absolute minimum space between mech and big ring e.g. a couple of mil max. Even my nasty QS Veloce shifters will run almost anything and the older stuff, e.g. my Record 8 speeds have never failed and I run all sorts of weird and wonderful junk. Even my old Campag matchbox front mech works.
Of course you may have the one front mech that doesn't work. If in doubt something older is easier to set up.
I also use normal double mechs on my triple Campag set ups. 1 has used a modern Centaur one and the other an early 70's Super Record.
