I'm going to buy a new crank for cx racing. probably a shimano cx50 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=70118

I'd like to change the outer 46 ring for a 42

will this one fit? http://www.cyclesurgery.com/pws/UniqueProductKey.ice?ProductID=M367A42XX&gclid=CIuJoJbf_rcCFSXMtAodpEkA6w

I don't think that will fit, the cranks will be 110bcd and that 42 looks like it's from the middle of a triple so probably 130bcd

usual disclaimers apply!

that 105 crank has 110 BCD for both the outer and inner ring the inner ring is a 36..

how about a 39t outer?

I'm confused. as long as its 110bdc any ring will fit on either the inner or outer of the crank spider?

yep, just that it may not have the ramps etc suited to be an out ring making the shift between rings not as smooth..

if you are looking for such small rings why not just run a 1x

which ever position lines up best with the sprockets you use the most...

but normally on the inner and then put a bash on the outer, plus say an N gear jump stop
