A tubeless problem.

I have been running tubeless for a while but needed to replace the rear, bought a Maxxis Beaver, but missed the small print and failed to get the tubeless variant.

I have seated the tyre and it inflated nicely, but goes flat overnight. I checked with a large tub of water and air is escaping from thousands of tiny holes in the casing. I have added more sealant and left it on its side for a couple of days, but still goes flat overnight.

Can I fix this, or should I concede defeat and buy a proper tubeless ready tyre?

Having run previous Maxxis non tubeless for years not sure if they have made those variants more porous or not. But generally on porous sidewalls (continentals) more sealant was the key until it soaked in and plugged them all.

Either go for a ride or have the wheel set up somewhere you can give it a spin regularly, to get a good coating on the inside of the tyre.

I have tried going for a ride, several times. Fortunately it holds air well enough to make this possible, but it has not fixed the underlying issue. Perhaps have another go with more sealant!

Try some of the "race" sealant?

Patience and more patience if you can be arsed. I did a couple of Maxxis wire bead tyres a year or so ago and while they stayed up during a ride, they went down overnight. I just kept re-inflating them, topping the sealant up and riding on them until they stopped going down as quickly and eventually stayed up.
