........... fit a 10 speed 11-36 cassette to my bike and using a 9speed mech & shifter set the limits so the 11 is missed out and the say 13-36 work?

Just thinking as the lower gear may be useful on my 29'er, or just fit a 11-34 9speed cassette and be done with it?

No.You can get a 9sp 12-36 cassette though.

No heavier than any other hg60 cassette I spose.

IIRC a sram 970 11-34T is around 450g
I'd have thought a 12-36T @ 425g isn't bad at all for a non-carrier type casette?
