You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've bought a pair of M780 XT shifters from the classified (both were correctly listed - SL-M780-B & SR-M780); however, being an I-Spec newbie I wasn't aware of versions A & B.
My M675 brake levers are I-Spec B.
The right hand shifter is I-Spec A (with a hook and nut) and nut & it appears that I can't fit an I-Spec A shifter to a B lever.
Is there an affordable bodge? SJS have a set of 2 covers that would convert both to B but at £22 plus postage it's a bit spendy. It looks like I could sort it out with just the silver I-spec mount for the right hand shifter but I can't find one.
Anyone? 😔
I looked into this when I bought new brakes for the hardtail without concentrating. All the options are more than you'd would to spend for a small piece of metal. I ended up nabbing the brakes off the singlespeed, and the SS got the new brakes that I couldn't fit shifters too.
Tried Problem Solvers and one-up?
All I actually need is the bit below in I-Spec B flavour for a RH shifter (the image shows a type A mount and is located in Australia, so a non-starter) but they don't seem to be sold as spares (unless anyone knows differently). I might have to buy a set of M780 I-Spec B adapters for band-on shifters to get the piece or not use the shifters.
Can you not just dremel the hook off and widen the bolt hole?
This is a complete bodge but might work.
Or I have an Ispec-B 10speed XT shifter and an Ispec-B 2/3 speed SLX shifter kicking around.
Have you tried https://www.bikeparts.co.uk? When I knackered a Deore lever they appeared to sell practically every part.
Thanks all!
I've bodged it in the past with a small amount of fabrication/dremmeling and it's worked fine for years!
The other option is Trickstuff in Germany - spendy but they make adapter for all, with a table so you can sort it out. I used them to fit Sram shifters to M785 shimano brakes. Great service, helpful and quick.
You can bodge anything onto anything. If you own a dremel and a spoon drawer it shouldn't even be a question. I've got a 10 speed I-Spec B bar mounted to my hack bike with a bit of a 7 speed trigger shifter
