So another Garmin heart rate monitor has gone all crazy again after changing the battery. It seems to be a reoccurring problem; they work for a week or so after changing then start giving false or no readings. Up til now I have just bought another one but I would rather have something that lasts longer than a year. Anyone got any good recommendations?
Have the same issue with a wahoo Tickr. One of the things they have suggested is that some batteries (the child safe ones, Inc duracell) cause this issue. They have suggested using Panasonic - waiting for some to arrive in the post and will report back
Btw - pretty much any Bluetooth or Ant+ chest strap will work with your edge
I've not got a Garmin, but I've been using a dual BT/ANT+ Coospo H6 for over 3.5 years, cost me under £25 from Amazon back then.
I give the unit contacts a wipe after each session and give the strap a rinse in cool water every now again, been good as gold when battery has not been on verge of dying every ~6 months.
Halfords own brand for about £18 - works a treat with my Garmin Etrex
Coospo here. Cheap enough that I don't care whether it lasts ages anyway but Mrs Hoppys is going strong nearly a year on.
I had problems with my Garmin HRM after changing the battery. Someone online (perhaps on here) mentioned taking the battery out & shorting the connectors with a paperclip or similar.
Sounded like nonsense to me, but figured I had nothing to lose so I tried it & it has worked fine ever since.
That might be worth a try.
Failing that I just boughy a Magene HRM from ebay for about £20 & it's been good so far. I think it's the H64.
The Halford one works well, however, mine developed a weird issue where it looked like I'd stopped beating and then slowly rose again...would be going along on the graph of effort and it would build up and then just drop to zero and slowly build up again. Change of battery didn't help it. For the 2 years of use, it seems to be great...but the weird drops for 3 rides seemed a bit odd.
I ended up buying the Garmin Dual HRM and it has appeared to be far more consistent and 'accurate'.
I suspect the strap on the Halfords one may have been on the way out but the Garmin one is working a treat (even though it was almost 3 times the price of the Halfords one).
I've a cheap Coospo too, works fine generally with and connects to my Garmin 520 OK.
