I currently have a bike with TRP Spyre brakes on. I have a new frame to build, a Genesis Datum. The mounts are for flat mount brake calipers, but also says that they are backwards compatable with existing calipers. What benefits if any do direct mount calipers confer?

More aero.

AKA you can't sell repurposed MTB stuff to roadies.

None, AFAIK.

On the one hand they do look more 'integrated' with the frame/forks.

On the other thye look like 1980's motorbike calipers.

Ok, thank you. They seem to command a premium in price. I will stick with the ordinary version i think
