So that no matter what you do they will not seal any more? New tape, new tyres, new stans, with fairy in?

If they've been bent, dinged or otherwise deformed then possibly yes.

Yes, I've seen it happen. If it's a ding in an alloy rim you might be able to bend it back with a bit of careful adjustable spannering. I've done that a couple of times on one of my Crests, it works fine now but wouldn't stay sealed when dented.

yep.

What Tape are you using? Stans?

Try 1" wide gorilla tape. MUCH better

Why? Why is it better?

I tried it, found it works no better, but is much more of a pain, especially if you need to take it off to fix a spoke and then redo it. Saying that gorrila tape is better seems to have become one of these statements to show the writer is "knowledgeable" about bikes, when they are really just repeating third hand knowledge that is wrong.

Only if there's damage to the rim then, interesting, need to have a good look round then.

I'd heard that Gorilla Tape can be difficult to get off.

I found gorilla tape worked, but it was messier to remove and the adhesive seemed to absorb moisture from the sealant. Dumped it and went back to the plastic stans style stuff. Much better.

lol, you do know what Enve use for their hugely expensive tubeless rim tape? yep, 1" wide gorilla tape with Enve printed on it...

It does work better in my experience. Stans stuff is prone to cracking, and it lifts off the rim if you don't get it absolutely perfect, allowing air and sealant to leak out, Gorilla tape also reduces the gap between the tyre and rim bed as it's thicker, reducing burping. And, its a 10th of the price.
So what if the only downside is its messier to take off? in reality how often does that happen and it would be the least of your worries if you needed to.

I found gorilla tape worse than stans and roval tape. Don't consider extra thickness to be an advantage tbh. If I need to use something other than tubeless tape I use pvc electrical tape,I reckon it's better than gorilla too.

But in any case... Seems to be a bit off the topic. A good condition rim should always seal, I reckon the most likely cause is a bad seal elsewhere, valve or tape. Have you tried dunking it in the bath?

I don't think Gorilla tape is any better. I like the extra thickness (my LB rims needed two turns of Stan's tape), and it is stickier, but that's a PITA if you have to remove it - like replacing a spoke, and it doesn't really work any better as such. It seals the spoke holes. That's about it. So does Stan's tape, and electrical tape, parcel tape would probably work if you used enough. I don't think you can use the fact that Enve use it as conclusive evidence it's a superior product.

Isn't the Stan's/Roval stuff just rebranded 3M something or other anyway?

i never said it was superior, just miles cheaper and easier to fit and has some benefits. i've used it for years and its been great, the same can't be said for my experiences with Stans or Roval tape (that Roval stuff is awful)

the reason i mentioned trying it is i have had trouble with stans tape not sealing as it doesn't stick too well to some rims and the sealant and air can get under the tape, whereas Gorilla tape sticks like S**t to a blanket and i've never had an issue since switching to it.

Presumably because you've not tried to remove it. If you prepare the rim properly and apply the tape carefully Stan's is excellent. Gorilla tape is better if you just want to whack it on and go.

I knew someone would go there.... 🙄

works better in my experience, not is a better product, just an alternative that i find easier to use and have better results with.

Why make life hard? I can set up rims tubeless without leaks from scratch in a couple of minutes using Gorilla tape, no messing around de-greasing and cleaning/drying rims and then i find the end product works better for longer.

And no, i haven't had to take it off for spoke replacement, so can't comment on that aspect, other than what i stated above.

As i mentioned earlier, i only suggested it as a way of resolving the OPs problem as i find it is more reliable and easier, not to get into a big debate about who's right and wrong.

gorilla tape. MUCH better

I have never had stans tape crack or lift of the rim, and if you know what to buy is cheaper than gorilla tape.

Sideshow though innit? Doesn't matter which tape he uses, if it's on right and not damaged it won't be causing this problem
