This hub on CRC is stated as being 29er specific. It doesn't say why and my gut feel is that there is no reason why it couldn't be built up as a 26" wheel. Does anyone have any insight as to why? Is it more likely to explode?
I suspect it's just got bigger flanges to keep spoke length down a bit.
There was a thread on this a month or so back, although I couldn't find it just now. IIRC the consensus was that they're the same.
They've got reinforced freehubs to deal with the extra torque from the 12-36 '29er specific' 9 speed cassette.
So there's no difference.
No, but they are directional. Check the arrows on the hub to make sure it's the right way round.

This bit, and the effective gearing of 29ers is always lower so there's always higher torque.
